Main challenges in joint office work:

·  How to organize joint cooperation?

EU Forest policy processes and its implications in the region = NFP + Natura 2000

Policy and Governance Research Program = Governance in Protected areas + Investigation on private forests’ owners interest for SFM (FACESMAP), NFP project, INTEGRATE project, also it is important to apply jointly for EU projects

European Forest Research Plan

Research plans on European level:

·  Research (funding) landscape is continuously changing

·  Horizon2020 starting 2014

·  research less sectoral

·  EFI has as one of its activities ’to be a voice for forest research in Europe

AIM of EFRP

·  Develop a progressive multidisciplinary European forest research plan (2014 – 2020),

·  Based on the current state of knowledge and emerging knowledge gaps,

·  Emphasise on the future research needs.

Relation to FTP - SRA

·  EFRP is a further elaboration of forestry value chain of FTP-SRA

·  Both documents are based around societal challenges of H2020

·  Fully synchronised

·  FTP is involved in EFRP

·  FTP-SRA is now in second consultation, and German NSG & EFI use this as well for better synchronisation

The research plan will have:

·  Reviews of regional and topical areas

·  Identification of new research areas 2014-2020

Future plans:

August Coordinating authors organize the writing groups around their topics

September First drafts of topical chapters

October Discussion and input with associate members, based on summary

November Revision and writing by author groups

December Second draft consultation, advisory group, stakeholder consultation via FTP NSGs,

Until now it has been done:

·  topics for further research are related to responsible management of forest resources, industry leadership and fulfilling consumers’ needs
