MATTOON MIDDLE SCHOOL GOLF 2017-18

Mattoon Middle School piloted golf as an activity during the 2015-16 school year, and we have had participants each year since. This activity is unique to other activities in that the Sectional Tournament is the only event students are required to participate in. Below are some import facts about your child’s participation in golf:

·  No regular season contests are required. There are separate Sectional Qualifier Tournaments for boys and girls.

·  There is a maximum of 3 slots for boys and 3 slots for girls from Mattoon Middle School. If more than 3 students for either group express interest, the top 3 average scores of 18 holes will receive the slots.

·  The slots are first come - first served basis so we will look to enroll our kids before the August 25, 2017 deadline.

·  The boys’ sectional tournament, held at Eagle Ridge Golf Course in Paris, will be on Tuesday, September 5, 2017. The girls’ sectional tournament, held at Country Hills Golf Course in Greenview, will also be on Tuesday, September 5, 2017. The State Tournament’s location is at the Kellogg Golf Course in Peoria, held on Saturday, September 16, 2017.

·  Mattoon Middle School will send a coaching representative with the athletes, as required by IESA. Students will practice independently and may prepare at any course they wish at their own expense.

·  Interested students will report to the site of the Sectional Tournament via parent or guardian and will represent MMS. Carpooling may be an option for participating golfers.

·  Mattoon Middle School enrolls the golfers with IESA, pays for the child’s registration at the IESA Sectional Tournament, and provides a $5 lunch stipend for any participating golfer.

·  MMS must report to IESA the child’s: Name, Grade, Birthdate, Average Score of 18 holes, and primary local golf course played.

·  MMS would expect the child to have a Permission to Participate and a valid sports physical in place to ensure their wellness prior to the competition.

·  CUSD 2 has an extracurricular fee of $35.00 per sport for 2016-17 participants. Student maximum is $70.00 with a family maximum of $140.00.
