Dr Mohamed Fahim Abdul Cader—Endeavour Postgraduate Scholarship

/ “My Endeavour scholarship provided me with opportunities to collaborate with international university partners.”Dr. Fahim Cader’s passion to improve healthcare for Sri Lankans led him to do his PhD in Medicine. An Endeavour Postgraduate Scholarship provided an opportunity for him to further develop his epidemiological clinical laboratory skills.
He worked closely with his supervisors and built on his data analysis and interpretation skills as well as expanding his academic writing skills. He presented his research work to both local and international audiences and won three international travel grants.
“Endeavour provided me with opportunities to collaborate with international university partners, including the University of Edinburgh, University of Colorado, the Australian National University and the University of Queensland.
“This collaboration is continuing and will result in further interesting research.
“At the end of my PhD submission, the University of Sydney awarded me an honorary research fellow which was an achievement I am very proud of,” he said.
Fahim says that he has enjoyed the culture in Australia and that it was a great place to live and work.
“I had a great social network through the Sri Lankan community in Sydney and I was very fortunate to have my family with me during my programme.
“I also had three wonderful supervisors who have helped me to feel like Australia is my home country.”
Professor Nicolas Buckley from UNSW says that Fahim’s scholarship has helped strengthen a long-term collaboration between UNSW and the University of Peradeniya which is part of the larger South Asian Clinical Toxicology Research Collaboration that has produced over 100 joint publications over the last decade.
