"Work" has changed throughout history. Some jobs used to be very popular but are not anymore. Some jobs have continued to be necessary and popular even though the world has changed a lot. Believe it or not, the job you might have one day may not even exist yet. What is a big factor in these changes in "work?" TECHNOLOGY!
If you ask your parents how they used to plan a trip 15 years ago, they will probably tell you that they called a travel agent. Travel agents were the only way to find out what flights were available and what the best hotel rates were. Now, most people just go to a travel website and book their own flights and hotels. There used to be travel agents on every street, now you can barely find one in an entire town!
Another job that is disappearing because of technology is the postal worker. The people who work in the post office or deliver the mail are "postal workers." Years ago if you wanted to send a letter to a friend in another state, you wrote the letter, put it in an envelope, put a stamp on it and dropped it in the mail box. Most people today would just send an email! Since the amount of mail has been reduced by technology, careers in postal work are declining as well.
Some jobs have remained in high demand even though technology has changed the way people work. Doctors, nurses, teachers and police officers now have to use technology in their jobs every day. However, technology will probably never completely eliminate the need for these professions.
Ten years ago there was no such job as an "App Developer" or an "Online Advertising Manager." However, with the introduction of Iphones and Androids, "App Developer" became a new job. Almost all stores have a website now and they want people to shop there. So, they have started hiring online advertising managers!
