Context

The British Red Cross is the largest voluntary humanitarian organisation in the world. It promotes humanitarian values, and provides emergency help to people in short-term crisis in the UK and overseas. Within the UK, the British Red Cross operates through 33,000 volunteers and 2,500 staff.

Scope

The post holder will work within the Intranet team that sits within the Internal Communications team but will deal with key stakeholders society wide. The post holder will project manage a significant digital project to evaluate and select a new social intranet platform of the British Red Cross and oversee the implementation of the new system as well as the migration of content to the new platform. The project will involve working with third-party software providers as well as internal stakeholders and the MIS department.

Overall Purpose of the Post

This role will deal with the day-to-day liaison between members of the project board, project team, internal stakeholders and external vendors. You will agree key deliverables, specify timelines and milestones as well as manage project budgets ensuring the project is delivered on-time and on-budget. The project will consist of gathering user requirements, short-listing alternative intranet platforms (from bespoke systems to off-the-shelf products) and then evaluating each system against those requirements with a view to selecting the best platform by Q4 2014. There will also be significant work to migrate content from the existing intranet to the new system which may involve managing teams of temporary staff as well as planning the launch of the new system.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

·  To provide regular updates to the project board, project team, internal stakeholders as well as the IT strategy steering group and senior management team.

·  Day to day project management including defining and evaluating ways of working, planning, scheduling, budget and milestone monitoring.

·  Liaising with internal clients to capture their requirements for the new system and translate those into requirements for the new system.

·  To participate in the research and long-listing of potential intranet solutions.

·  To evaluate potential systems against the list of requirements.

·  Delegate tasks and responsibilities to appropriate internal personnel.

·  To liaise with agencies and internal MIS team to ensure adherence to project deadlines.

·  Identify and manage project dependencies and critical path.

·  Plan and schedule project timelines and milestones using appropriate tools.

·  Track project milestones and deliverables.

·  Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential crises, and devise contingency plans.

·  Coach, mentor, motivate and supervise project team members and contractors, and influence them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work.

·  To undertake any other related tasks requested by the Intranet Manager

Person Specification

EDUCATION/ TRAINING / ·  Educated to degree level or equivalent professional qualification**
·  PRINCE2 Qualified Practitioner or equivalent
EXPERIENCE / ·  Proven project management experience working within a PRINCE2 or similar project management environment on a variety of business related system projects.**
·  Experience of working within the NGO or Charity sector would be an advantage
·  Experience of managing major website technology selection and implementation projects.
·  Experience of content migration would be an advantage.
·  Experience of working with social intranets would be an advantage.
KNOWLEDGE/ TECHNICAL SKILLS / ·  Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite**
·  Working knowledge of Microsoft Project
·  Knowledge of Business Analysis and requirements analysis techniques
·  Knowledge of content management systems**
