Job Description: Director of Music Ministry

Reports to: Senior Pastor

Job Summary: To develop and lead the worship music ministry of St. Luke. This includes working with the Pastor, staff and lay leaders to develop a well-rounded music ministry for worship services and special events.

Responsibilities:

1.  Facilitate effective musical leadership for all worship services by scheduling musicians, other worship leaders.

2.  Direct the Praise team, Liturgical Choir and Bell Choir. Lead rehearsals as scheduled and lead the choir during worship service(s)

3.  Arrange for substitute musicians for any services he or she is unable to attend.

4.  Work with organist and cantors

5.  Encourage church member participation in the music ministry by recruiting song leaders, instrumentalists, vocalists, choir members, supports volunteers and children’s choir leaders

6.  Provide training and oversight of musical instruments and sound board.

Performs administrative support duties, including:

1.  Maintain the music library for the Liturgical and Bell Choirs. Buy music supplies, limiting expenditures to the amount provided in the church budget

2.  Maintain bells, organ, and tuning of pianos as needed.

3.  Work cooperatively with the Pastor(s), staff, and congregation members with duties including:

A.  Participate in the planning of worship. Submit any titles of music to be used and other desired information for inclusion in the church bulletin and/or newsletter to the Church Administrator. Communicate with Multimedia teams for weekly worship

B.  Attend Worship committee meetings and worship planning sessions with Pastor. Attend staff meetings as requested.

C.  Work with Church administrator and Pastor(s) to ensure accurate information is submitted and included in the church bulletin and other publications

D.  Assist with Planning Center as a worship scheduling tool

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in music, church music, or other related area such as sacred music or choral conducting preferred or minimum three years’ experience as a church musician

Special Skills/Abilities

Strong faith; maintains Christian values and lifestyle. Ability to work well with others, e.g. staff members, pastors, and congregational leaders and provide positive leadership to choral or musical groups. Ability to learn church planning software to coordinate activities. An enthusiastic, organized individual with good communication skills (written, verbal and listening) is essential.
