Jesus Came for the Sinner

A MESSAGE FROM THE FOUNDER

We are so grateful to God for entrusting us to minister to men behind prison walls. The Reach Out and Touch Prison Ministry has been ministering at Rikers Island since July 18, 1995 to this present time. Your prayers and support has enabled us to continue this vital, life-changing ministry for 16 years. God has been faithful to us and has enlarged our borders. We are currently reaching out to over 80 men at Rikers and throughout the NY State correctional facilities with Bible Study Lessons. They are responding diligently with letters, lessons, prayer requests and praise reports. To God be the Glory for the things He is doing for the Men through ROTPM.

Jesus Came for the Sinner

In Luke 15:4-7, Jesus says “Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and lose one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? And when he finds it, he joyfully puts in on his shoulders and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent”

Jesus came not for the righteous but for the sinners; not the 99 but the 1. He came for the lost, the least, the last. And heaven celebrates whenever one is brought back to Him. And that’s why we go.

God Answers the Prayers of the Prisoners

KJ was the “one”. We met him at the close of the earlier Services led by Rev Gittens and the Allen Church. He was distraught beyond words, crying uncontrollably; alone and desperate. We do not know how much we need God until God is all that we have and KJ needed God. ROTPM helped KJ to better understand our Lord and His mercy and forgiveness.

Testimony from KJ: “I thank y’all so much for the help of you and the Lord and I also thank you for helping me learn more of the Word of the Lord. He is good to me always. The prayers y’all have done for me was very powerful. Let me tell you a short story. On Jan 27, 2012, I was in the court holding the power of God and He gave me so much power and faith I can’t even believe it myself but at first I was looking at 15yrs then 7yrs but God is good I winded (sic) up with 5yrs probation so that means I’m going home soon very soon. That doesn’t mean now I’m going to stop talking to the Lord. NO!!...... I also want to say this, I love you guys y’all the best. But don’t stop praying for me just yet keep going cause I need all the prayer I could get from the Lord. I’ve become a better man for my heavenly father and myself…. God bless y’all. Sincerely, KJ” Amen!

Letters From Behind Prison Walls

We are blessed to receive numerous letters every week from men seeking the Lord in their lives. Below are some excerpts:

From CR: “God has been filling me with joy in spite of my condition. I have peace! Knowing my future is in good hands…..My father in heaven sends people in my life every day to show me that I am on His mind. ROTPM is living proof”

From GG: “Your letter and Sermon was used by God to move me to speak to the men here at tonight’s Service. I shared the following statement, ‘Sometimes we don’t know how much we need God until He is all that we have. Keep pressing in to Him’ Awesome!...When we made the altar call, Heaven rejoiced over the 5 sinners who gave their lives to the Lord. Hallelujah!”

From HR: “I want to thank you for your words of encouragement. Every one of us Christians have days when things are down with them. And then suddenly someone would show up and give you some words of encouragement, a hug to comfort you, or you would receive a letter saying how great work you are doing for the Lord Jesus Christ.”

From AR: “I am an aspiring Minister, Preacher and God willing Pastor…..I would like to know the steps I must take on my journey to become the type of Man of God [He has called me to be]. I have never felt the hunger more for anything else in my life before; to preach the Word of God”

From CH: “I have received my certificate, thanks. The reward that the Lord has given me, just by enlightening me through His Word is sufficient. But I appreciate the ministry acknowledging my completion of six studies….The bible studies are very informative”
