Wednesday, September 16th - Friday September 18th 2015

Why Environmental School?

Jenks Wild is an opportunity to involve students in a different kind of classroom experience. Learning Labs are the heart of our Outdoor Education. We use the outdoors as our classroom, and engage in hands-on activities involving student observation and interaction with animals & plant ecosystems found in the beautiful Flint Creek and the surrounding Ozark Hills.

What Is Environmental Education?

1.  Environmental education contains five components:

2.  An experience-based approach to learning using the total human, natural and physical resources of the school and community as an educational laboratory.

3.  An interdisciplinary classroom which relates all subject areas to the environment.

4.  A broad approach to teaching about man’s relationship to is environment - how he affects and is affected by the world aroundhim.

5.  An integrated process dealing with man’s natural and man-made surroundings.

6.  A unique experience oriented toward developing relationships and friendships that will endure throughout life.

What Is The Purpose Of The Program?

It is our desire that each student return home a healthier, wiser, happier, more observant and more self-reliant person because of this distinctive experience.

The environmental school has four main objectives:

1.  To develop an awareness and appreciation of the total environment.

2.  To develop an appreciation for the importance of conserving our natural resources.

3.  To develop an attitude of self-reliance.

4.  To develop an appreciation of classmates and their differences.

What Will The Curriculum Include?

The curriculum will have an interdisciplinary focus centered on the themes of ecosystems and environmental ethics. Students will also experience the challenge courses (high and low rope courses) to encourage team-building and an appreciation for others.

How Much Will It Cost?

The cost per camper for Jenks Wild is $95.00; HOWEVER thanks to the great participation of the Penguin Plunge PTAG can donate enough to drop the cost to $65.00 per student. No child will be denied the Jenks Wild Opportunity based on financial constraints. If you would like to begin a payment program or would like to visit regarding financial constraints, please contact Mollie Mills 918-299-4415 x2910 or .

We encourage students to begin earning camp fees now. This action instills a sense of ownership and commitment toward the program. Payment is due by Sept. 4th, 2015. If you would like to contribute an amount over the $65.00 cost to help offset district expenses for Jenks Wild, your donation will be tax-deductible and you will be recognized on a Board of Education agenda.
