PROGRAM GOALS:

Participants will:

· Describe causes and outcomes related to the transmission of bloodborne pathogens and list resources for prevention of HAIs.

· Describe vaccine preventable diseases and immunization updates for patients and HCWs

· Describe VAP prevention measures and list new NHSN criteria for VAC reporting

· Describe measures to prevent infection related to HVAC/Air Handling Systems

SPEAKERS AND COURSE OBJECTIVES

At the conclusion of the program the attendee will be able to:

· Describe how the reuse of syringes and multi-dose vials can lead to patient-to-patient transmission of bloodborne pathogens.

· Describe two common practices that will not prevent outbreaks.

· List two web based resources for prevention of healthcare associated infections

This program is appropriate for healthcare professionals in acute, sub-acute, and long term care facilities, home health agencies, and ambulatory care settings. This includes: professionals in infection prevention and control, employee health, quality improvement, safety, and risk management, physicians, nurses, clinical laboratory scientists, professionals in sterile processing, respiratory therapists, engineering and environmental services.
