INDIAN BASKETBALL Mission & Philosophy

Coach D. Powell

At Wetumpka High School, we aim todevelop accountable, confident, and competitive role players who focus on academics firstand becoming champions second.Ourprogram iswell-respected because of how we perform onand off the court. We strive to situate our players in the best positions to obtain basketball scholarships and ultimately be college and career ready. It is our mission tomold our young men intoproductive citizens by using the following core values:

  • P – Pride -Valuing and respecting your family, team, school, community, and most importantly yourself
  • R – Resilience - Having the ability to bounce back when faced with adversity
  • I – Integrity - Being honest and trustworthy – doing what’s right
  • C – Commitment - Being loyal to your individual role, team, and school
  • E – Effort - Making a determined attempt to be excellent... nothing less

Players– Will first buy into Coach Powell, his philosophy, and earn their own "P.R.I.C.E. tag."Indian basketball players know their role(s). They are dedicated to both individual improvement and the development of INDIAN BASKETBALL, which is team basketball. They consistently go above and beyond while demonstrating high levels of focus, intensity, and hustle in practices, games, and most importantly academics. They realize that a championship mentality extends beyond the regular season, and clearly understands that fruitful athletes are made in the off season.

Indian Nation– We are the sixth man! We are loyal fans and will proudly support our Indians. We will help our players understand that a successful team requires a great deal of time and dedication. We comprehend that basketball is not a separate entity from the young men's school experience, and that P.R.I.C.E. must be exemplified both on and off the court. We will also help them apply P.R.I.C.E. to school as they are "student-athletes"... students first and athletes second. Hopefully, in teaching these lessons, we'll provide our young men with skills that are necessary for a successful life beyond Wetumpka High School.

Lastly, we recognize that basketball is a game, and that our young men are fascinated by the sport primarily because it is enjoyable. Therefore, win or lose we will be respectful to all players, referees, fans, and coaches. As we compete, we will continue to exude class and conduct ourselves accordingly! GO INDIANS!

Success comes with a P.R.I.C.E.
