The Illinois Department of Veteran’s Affairs is inviting applications for the following position:

Position Title: Registered Nurse 1 Monthly Salary Range: $4,710.00 - $6,389.00

Bargaining Unit: RC023

Position Location: Illinois Veterans’ Home @ Quincy

Section: Nursing/MDS

WORK SCHEDULE - Days: Monday -- Friday Hours: 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Description of Duties:

Under direction, completes professional nursing assessments, checks vital signs, reviews medical history, examines patients, and gathers required medical information for the Minimum Data Set (MDS). Interviews residents and families to prepare for scheduled care plan reviews or to determine when a significant change in a resident’s condition has occurred. Serves as a member of the Care Plan Committee, coordinating the collection of data from interdisciplinary team members and completing the nursing portion of the total MDS care plan. Monitors and reviews resident records to ensure required documentation is present, including Advance Directives, and ensure that appropriate care is being administered according to the resident care plan. Enters finalized care plan into the computer system and prepares final report to be included in resident charts. Reviews resident applications prior to admission. Contacts relevant parties to assess and determine physical and social needs. Serves as a resource for MDS assessments.

Education, Training and Experience:

Requires graduation from an approved nursing education program resulting in an associate or diploma degree in nursing or a bachelor’s degree in nursing. Requires licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois. Requires knowledge of diversified professional nursing principles, concepts and practices. Requires knowledge of application and use of specialized medical equipment. Requires knowledge of pharmacology of commonly prescribed medicines and drugs and their therapeutic and possible adverse reactions. Requires ability to instruct non-nursing personnel in the proper practices and procedures of patient care. Requires ability to evaluate patient condition and behavior and prepare accurate, detailed records of such observations.
