New York State Convention

The word “convention” is based on the word ‘convene,’ meaning to “come together.”

During these months, Catholic Daughters from across the country have been coming together for biennial State Conventions. They come together from different cities, living situations and Courts across the state.

They also come together on a deeper, spiritual level in the context of the CDA motto “Unity and Charity.” Catholic Daughters came together in heart and mind, even while expressing different views and sharing original ideas from their Court.

“Everybody has the same purpose,” National Regent Claudia Bosch said. “We have fun together and we pray together.”

Claudia, who visited the New York State Convention from her home town of Dickenson, North Dakota, added, “I’m not here as the National Representative for the organization. My purpose is twofold: I’m going to be doing some business at our National Headquarters in New York City. I’m rather economical when it comes to spending money so I wanted to get as many things done at the same time as possible.”

Claudia noted that this Convention had special meaning as it was New York’s 50th Biennial Convention and it was held in Syracuse, New York, close to Utica, New York, where the first CDA Court was established 50 years ago.

The Convention theme was “Be Not Afraid.” Indeed, courage was the order of the day. The New York State Daughters were not afraid to speak their minds at business meetings, learn from workshops and reach out to God in the three liturgies including a Mass of the Holy Spirit, Mass for Deceased Members and the elegantly beautiful Mass of Installation that concluded the conference.

At Fun Night with a Mardi Gras theme they showed en mass that they were not afraid to have fun!

If you’ve had your State Convention, we hope it went well for you. Most likely you experienced a combination of joy and success along with lessons learned and ideas to improve the next Convention two years from now. If your Convention is coming up, best wishes for a blessed and enriching experience.

Every convention is similar to others in some ways, yet unique unto itself. The attached photos tell some of the story of the recent New York State Convention
