Analy Site Council Minutes

May 6, 2008

Members present: Deborah Drehmel, Madisyn O’Brien, Tom O’Brien, Rosalie Abbott, Autumn Burnes, Kate Mundell, Diane Davis, Gregg Wrisley, Suzanne Arnold, Anita Fenichel, Denise Calvert, and Hayley Winn and Marty Webb and Diane Seymour.

1.  Agenda was approved.

2.  Minutes of 4-8-08 were approved with corrections.

3.  No Parent Concerns or Public Comment.

4.  Principal’s Report

-The new principal at Analy High School will be Chris Heller who is currently employed at Middleton High School.

-Raul Guerrero is the newly hired vice-principal. Mr. Guerrero is currently working at Montgomery High School

-Analy students took the CASEE in March and only 10 students will need to re-take the English portion and 12 the math portion.

-Student Susanna Kay received a Congressional Art award.

5.  Student Report

-Site Council member Madysin O’Brien has accepted an athletic scholarship to Cal.

-Students Cameron Williams and Mica Burnes introduced themselves and expressed an interest in serving on Site Council next year.

6.  School Board Report

-The board has approved the new phone system.

7.  Student Mental Health report

- Brenda Hoff (Vice-principal) and Julie Smith and Becky Raymond of the Scott Lane Teen Counseling Project spoke about the benefits of this past year’s Site Council funding of mental health counseling. In spite of increased staffing, there still exists a waiting list of approx. 60 students. As more students have become aware of the services, the counselors are seeing more self-referrals and the intern, Matt Shubin, has increased from one to two groups. Ms. Hoff stressed the importance of having Chris Van Stone available to students, as she is the only female counselor. Julie Smith reported that the District contributes the two full time counselors that are shared by the three schools, amounting to approx. $70,000. There is also currently a federally funded alcohol education counselor working at the schools.

8. escrip update: Diane Seymour reported that the current balance is $3,118.60.

9. Budget discussions followed regarding continued Site Council funding of the intern, Matt Shubin, and therapist, Chris Van Stone.

A motion was made by Marty Webb to allocate up to $5,000 of Site Council funds to the Scott Lane Teen Counseling Project for continued funding of the intern, Matt Shubin, and up to $6,000 to the District for continued funding of one day a week for Chris Van Stone. Suzanne Arnold seconded the motion and the motion was approved with two abstentions.
