FRONTLINE STAFF TRAINING PROGRAMME (FLS)

Programme Aims: To improve multi-disciplinary teamwork and communication, to develop a stronger safety culture and to develop patient safety champions.

The programme is available to all of the project sites within the Safer Care Pathways in Mental Health project. Partner trusts are invited to nominate twenty fivefrontline staff from the project site clinical teams for the one day general human factors introductory training (see schedule of dates and venues below).

Overall Programme Goals:

  1. Review of clinical team safety culture data
  2. Introduce or develop high quality briefings, performance de-briefings, structured communication and critical language use of a RCA framework and Incident decision tree for analysing errors
  3. Train all staff in Safety and Human Factors
  4. Develop patient safety champions of Safety and Human Factors

Programme Elements;

  1. Patient safety culture survey analysis and feedback
  2. Introductory human factors training days for front line staff (one day)
  3. Training and coaching sessions for patient safety champions (five days in total)
  4. Post intervention evaluation of behavioural change at an individual level and at team level

Introductory human factors training day for front line staff (see schedule below)

  • Whole day training workshop i.e. “The Human Factors” one day course
  • Aimed at all front line clinical team staff
  • Run at key accessible venues in the region.

Frontline staff can select one of thetraining days below according to the most suitable date and venue for them.

Output: Greater knowledge of Human Factors and the tools to improve team work in order to support the introduction of Human Factors practices in the workplace. Pre-course reading: Background reading will be made available.
