Health Class Syllabus Legacy Jr. High Mrs. Bell [email protected] [email protected]

Welcome to health class! I am excited to get to know all of you. We cover a wide variety of subjects in this class including but not limited to, mental and emotional health, nutrition and fitness, substance abuse prevention, diseases, and healthy relationships. This class will teach you how to make healthy decisions as well as improve your health through daily living.

Course objectives:

Health education provides students with the skills and knowledge necessary for practicing lifelong healthy behavior. We will build upon prior knowledge and understanding to determine consequences of our actions and decisions. Building a solid foundation in Health literacy and decision making skills will contribute to healthy decisions in the future. In addition, you will learn how personal health can impact society as a whole.

Participation:

Each student starts out with 100 points of participation. Participation points can only be taken away if a student is causing disruptions, doesn’t come to class prepared, or is not working or participating in the assignments/projects given. 5 points a day can be lost, this can add up quickly. Please come to class prepared and be ready to participate.

Assignments:

The assignments are designed to reinforce the materials covered in class. We do journal entries every day. A folder with paper will be needed in class. We do journal entries every day in class and you are expected to keep your journals and any assignment we do in that folder. Homework is a rare occurrence in the class but may happen, especially if you don’t finish your assignments in the time given during class.

Tests: Quizzes will be given periodically to monitor understanding. Tests will be given at the end of each unit.

Late work: Any late work must be turned in within three days that it was assigned. Any later and I will not take it. It is your responsibility to come to me when you have been absent to get what you have missed. I will not come to you.

Behavior:

Be sure to be respectful to others and to me as your teacher. Come to class prepared and ready to learn. Participation is a must in this class. I will call on you to answer questions, so make sure you are paying attention and ready to answer. I’m excited to get to know all of you and for the upcoming year.
