JOB DESCRIPTION

Position: Pre-Engineering Instructor Department: Student Services

Supervisor: Director of Instruction Personnel

Classification: Certified Instructional

Personnel

Job Summary: Instructor will teach Pre-Advanced Placement and/or Advanced Placement Physics and math courses; and Project Lead the Way (Pre-engineering) courses. Participate in the student selection process. Ensure effective evaluation of student achievement. Support the development and integration of technical and academic curricula. Provide classroom instruction as assigned. Develop external partnerships that enhance student learning and access to higher education. Regular attendance is expected.

Essential Processes:

1.  Teach advanced science, math, and pre-engineering courses as assigned.

2.  Develop appropriate curriculum in math, science and engineering. Integrate project-based learning into science and pre-engineering curricula. This will include the integration of engineering standards.

3.  Meet with students, parents, and sending school counselors to ensure appropriate students are placed in Pre-Engineering program. Assist in developing academic/career plans, assist in planning for post high school transition, assisting with development of student portfolios, scheduling, relevant tours, and participating in an annual open house.

4.  Evaluate student achievement by interpreting multiple data sources. This will include participating in an effective evaluation committee and implementing effective evaluation strategies.

5.  Develop and foster partnerships with external groups that represent business and industry; higher education; communities; sending schools; and civic and professional organizations. Outcomes of these partnerships to include education agreements to provide curriculum alignment and career pathways; opportunities for student mentoring, job shadowing; student scholarships; effective advisory committees; promoting and marketing; and scheduling of speakers.

6.  Ensure effective curriculum integration between academic and career instructors.

7.  Responsible for proper maintenance of equipment used in classroom.

Personnel

1.  Participate in an annual evaluation of his/her own performance with the Principal.

Professional Relations

1.  Maintain a line of communication and work cooperatively with instructors, administration and staff.

2.  Maintain professionalism through participation in professional activities.

3.  Establish and maintain a close working relationship with the staff at the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education.

4.  Develop and maintain contacts with community businesses for the purpose of advisory recommendations and student placement.

5.  Identify and assist with placing students on an on-the-job training program.

Other Processes: Perform such other professional tasks and assume such other professional

duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Director of

Instruction and/or Superintendent.

Education: Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s Degree, with a Certification in Secondary Mathematics; must be certified to teach Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Calculus. In addition, must hold Secondary Teacher’s Certification in Physics. Candidate must also attend Project Lead the Way training required to teach Pre-Engineering courses and must complete training required to teach Advanced Placement courses.

Certification: Eligible for Oklahoma State Department of Education Alternative, Provisional or Standard Certification in physics and math.

Experience: Three years successful teaching in related area and/or three (3) years of experience within the last five (5) years in a related industrial/business setting preferred. Must demonstrate an ability to: apply knowledge of advanced mathematics, science, and engineering; design and conduct scientific experiments; design a system, component, or process to meet desired engineering needs, use techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice; and, mechanical aptitude.
