Gen 2:7 and the LORD God Formed Man of the Dust of the Ground, and Breathed Into His Nostrils

IS A BABY SOUL-LESS IN THE WOMB?

And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living2416 soul.5315 -- Gen 2:7

Although Fundamental Christians are mostly against abortion, some are divided over whether an unborn baby is a soul in the womb. Is it a person in the womb with a personality? On the one hand some base their view upon Genesis 2:7 and the original creation of man, who was not a “living soul” until God breathed into his nostrils the breath of life. Still, does that apply to those not born in the same way that Adam and Eve were created?

Job’s Commentary on the Womb

Job 3:3 Let the day perish wherein I was born, and the night in which it was said, There is a man child conceived.

Job 3:11 - 22 Why died I not from the womb? why did I not give up the ghost when I came out of the belly? Why did the knees prevent me? or why the breasts that I should suck? For now should I have lain still and been quiet, I should have slept: then had I been at rest, With kings and counsellors of the earth, which built desolate places for themselves; Or with princes that had gold, who filled their houses with silver: Or as an hidden untimely birth I had not been; as infants which never saw light. There the wicked cease from troubling; and there the weary be at rest. There the prisoners rest together; they hear not the voice of the oppressor. The small and great are there; and the servant is free from his master. Wherefore is light given to him that is in misery, and life unto the bitter in soul. Which long for death, but it cometh not; and dig for it more than for hid treasures; Which rejoice exceedingly, and are glad, when they can find the grave?

Job 10:18, 19 Wherefore then hast thou brought me forth out of the womb? Oh that I had given up the ghost, and no eye had seen me! I should have been as though I had not been; I should have been carried from the womb to the grave.

Job questions the day thathe wishes had perished which allowedhis birth? He questions why he was not stillborn or miscarried and thus giving up the ghost. What was that baby's ghost? Soul? Spirit? Job believed that if such death would have been REST but where? Job had been in the womb unseen but was talking about not being SEEN alive outside the womb as though he had not been in the womb, where he also was not seen alive. If Job miscarried or was still born, where else could Job logically go? I see little difference between the untimely death of a still born infant that never sees light and others who together rest with him SOMEWHERE.

The O.T. Expectationwas to be Gathered Together in the Grave, Gathered Together with their People.

Gen 37:35 And all his sons and all his daughters rose up to comfort him; but he refused to be comforted; and he said, For I will go down into the grave unto my son mourning.

Gen 25:8 Then Abraham gave up the ghost, and died in a good old age, an old man, and full of years; and was gathered to his people.

Gen 25:17 And these are the years of the life of Ishmael, an hundred and thirty and seven years: and he gave up the ghost and died; and was gathered unto his people.

2 Sam 12:23 But now he is dead, wherefore should I fast? can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me.

When David's infant died, David expected to go and be with him. Where? No doubt, into Abraham's bosom, the prison paradise, to await being freed from that captivity, after Jesus' Resurrection and be caught upto the heavenly paradise (the prison paradise is now bypassed at death).

Some Questions in Regard to the First Soul versus those that Follow

There are a number of things here, regarding these views which require several questions.

Question 1: Is man the only living creature that possesses the breath of life?

And all flesh died that moved upon the earth, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of beast, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth, AND every man: All in whose nostrils was the breath of life, of all that was in the dry land, died. – Gen. 7:21, 22

Question 2: Is the term “living soul” in reference to the living innersoul or to the entire living person or even another living creature as opposed to a dead person or creature?

And God said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living2416 creature5315 that is with you, for perpetual generations: -- Gen. 9:12

And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living2416 creature5315 of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh. – Gen. 9:15

Question 3: Since God created man AND woman in His own image but created woman in a different way, did God breath into her nostrils the breath of life or didher life perpetuate from Adam’s rib (with Adam’s bone DNA and new God enclosed flesh DNA)? Does every moving, living creature have the self propagating or perpetuating ability to be fruitful and multiply without God’s direct intervention as happened in man’s original creation?

. . . God created he him; male AND female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. – Gen. 1:27, 28

Question 4: Shall we insist that the soul enters the baby through its nostrils at birth? And is ordinary air (nitrogen plus Oxygen) equivalent to God’s breath?

And the LORD God . . . and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life . . . Gen. 2:7

Question 5: If we are to consider the original creation of human beings as the benchmark for the human soul today, shall we insist upon a male baby that is born be formed from the dust of the ground as well? And should we insist that a female baby be made from a male rib?

And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground . . . –Gen. 2:7

And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman . . . – Gen. 2:21, 22

Question 6: Can a baby’s personality, emotion, and thoughts from inside the womb be understood as a soul?

He [not a soul-less thing?] took his brother [also not a soul-less thing?] by the heel in the womb, and by his strength he had power with God: -- Hosea 12:3

And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost: -- Luke 1:41, 44For, lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy. – Luke 1:41, 44

Question 7: Is there some kind of spirit or soul life in the womb?

Did not he that made me [not a soul-less thing] in the womb make him? and did not one fashion us [not soul-less things] in the womb? – Job 31:15

As thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit, nor how the bones do grow in the womb of her that is with child: even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all. – Ecc. 11:5

. . . before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations. – Jer. 1:5

Question 8: Is a person’s glory something more than a soul-less thing when they die, regardless of the time of that death?

Wherefore then hast thou brought me forth out of the womb? Oh that I had given up the ghost, and no eye had seen me [instead of being brought forth out of the womb]! – Job 10:18

As for Ephraim, their glory shall fly away like a bird, from the birth, and from the womb, and from the conception. – Hosea 9:11

Question 9: Is abortion cold-blooded murder according to God’s law even though it is legal?

Pro. 6:16, 17 These things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood . . .

The Abortionist is Cursed to take Reward for Slaying Innocent Blood

Deut.27:25Cursed be he that taketh reward to slay an innocent person. And all the people shall say, Amen.

Proverbs 6:16-17 These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood . . .

Notice this text says the "innocent blood," which is exactly what abortionists slay; they shed innocent blood. This is an excellent anti-abortion proof text. Even accidental abortions were punished or required restitution in the O.T. The womb baby is innocent and therefore a PERSON and if a PERSON, then he is a SOUL. Because that is what a person is -- a soul.

Where Does the Aborted Womb Baby Go at Death?

If the baby has not reached the age of accountability, (which being in the womb, it cannot arrain), can one justify the baby’s death by saying that the doctor just send a soul to Heaven? If this is the case, are abortion doctors to be considered the greatest of soul winners of all! Should they seek to win more souls that way? If the womb baby isn't going to heaven, is it condemned to Hell? Still, on the basis of accountability, if someone aborts a child in the womb or murders a child at the age of 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, where does the child go? Should we kill children of that age and also send them to heaven. Or do they go to hell? Into nonexistence? Annihilation? We say that If the abortionist or the murderer end a life at any age, they end a person, a soul, which is what a life is -- a living soul.
