Sigma Phi Epsilon’s Third Annual Balanced Man Development Retreat

Tampa, Fla. – April 7 – The Men of UT’s Sigma Phi Epsilon prepare for the third annual Balanced Man Development Retreat to be held at Key Stone Park next Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, April 15-17. A weekend-long retreat, the event is designed to develop brotherhood and leadership through a variety of fun games and team-building exercises. “This is by far our most ambitious project yet,” said Steven Martinez, who is Head of Member Development within Sigma Phi Epsilon. “We have the entire weekend planned as a nonstop adventure that will challenge the guys and really show them what they are made of.”

This event-packed weekend will consist of numerous activities designed to build camaraderie and develop the leadership skills that are invaluable to the leaders of tomorrow. “The idea is to challenge the guys who come up here,” says Anthony Winsko, one of the weekend coordinators. “We want them to really feel like they have accomplished something.”

Key Stone Park is the perfect location for this year’s event--a place where the participants can escape from everyday life and focus on the tasks at hand. “I’m really excited about the ropes course,” exclaimed one eager new member. The ropes course is a series of team-building obstacles that requires creativity and cooperation to overcome. The guys to learn to not only step forward with ideas but to also listen and follow the instructions of their peers. Multiple teams compete on the course simultaneously, which adds the thrill of activities. “The young men come out here not really knowing everyone here, but when they leave they really feel like they’re part of a team,” says Sean Miles, head of program activities. “That means a lot.”
