First Semester – Discover Careers, Majors and Opportunities!

____ Follow Internship/Career Development calendar on our website; social media - Facebook, LinkedIn; The Irvine

____ Attend the Non-profit and Public Service fair on Sept 9 to identify volunteer and internship organizations that fit your career/causes of interest. Sign-up to volunteer. Note deadlines for summer opportunities.

____ Start an ongoing list of academic areas of interests/classes you enjoy and careers you want to learn more about. Share list with your Summit Advisor, and use it to prioritize career panels, networking events and information sessions.

____ Attend Pizza and a Major in October to learn from juniors and seniors about majors Agnes Scott offers.

____ If your midterm GPA is above a 3.0, attend the Kemper and Hubert Scholar Info sessions in late Oct/early Nov.

●Kemper is a 3-year paid summer internship and scholarship ($3-10K) program for students interested in working in business/financial services. One ASC student is selected each year. Application Deadline is January 15, 2017.

●Hubert Scholars are paid stipends for summer internships to improve the world in service to others. Find an internship of your choice at home or abroad – reducing poverty, improving health outcomes, educating children - and receive a stipend to cover your costs up to $3,500. Application Deadline is February 5, 2017.

____ If you are considering a major in STEM, attend the Summer Research Information Session in early November.

Second Semester – Create Your Professional Toolkit & Plan for Summer!

LDR 102 will include a required assignment to create a college-level resume and have it approved by the Office of Internship and Career Development. Approved resumes are also required to access Scottie Career Connect to be connected with alumnae who have offered to conduct informational interviews with students.

____ For help with your resume, attend a Resume Lab in Campbell G15 offered every Friday at 2pm and 3pm from mid-January to mid-February. For any career-related question,come to walk-in hours in Buttrick G-26: Wednesdays 9-11am & Thursdays 2:30-4:30pm.

____ Read the Resume/CVGuide and use the Resume Templates to create your college-level resume. Then proof and upload your resume to agnesscott.edu/hireascottie for review.

____ Use the Leveraging LinkedIn and LinkedIn Checklist to create a professional profile on LinkedIn and begin inviting peers, professors, staff and supervisors to connect.

____ Download the Student Guide toNetworking and Student Guide to Informational Interviews to find out how to meet professionals and learn about different career paths.

____ Complete your profile on the agnesscott.edu/hireascottie jobs board to receive internship and career event announcements. Do NOT opt-out of emails from our department or you will miss these opportunities.

Get involved:

____ Attend Internship Weekevents (Early February) to learn about options for summer.

____ Discuss your summer plan with your Summit Advisor or someone in Career Development. Include the following:

✓At least 2 informational interviews related to your major/career of interest

✓Meaningful service experience to build professional skills (Excel, project management, writing)

✓Internship or research

✓Assigned assessments and reflections for your Digital Portfolio
