______2 FAQ’s about “Remind” Text Messaging Service & Permission Form (Signature Required) What is Remind? Remind is a website and smart phone application that will enable the adult leaders and staff of Sts. Peter and Paul high school faith formation to communicate safely and effectively with both teens and parents. How does Remind work? Using the website, the DRE or Youth Minister will create a “class” which also generates a unique code for the class. To “enroll” in the class, a teen/parent texts a specific phrase using the unique code for the phone number being texted. Then, a teen/parent will receive texts sent to everyone enrolled in the class and can text messages to the class moderator, namely, the DRE or Youth Minister. In this communication, no personal cell phone numbers are accessible or shared, and the DRE or Youth Minister uses a parish office email address for the Remind account. Lastly, a smart phone is not necessary to use this service; any cell phone capable of receiving text messages can be used. Is Remind free? Yes, we will use Remind at no additional cost to you or the parish. The text messages sent and received will be just as any other sent and received on your cell phone plan. If you and teen do not regularly text, please consult your cell phone service provider for text messaging rates and plans so you will know what to expect. Lastly, if you will not be able to use “Remind” due to financial constraints that already keep you from texting, please contact the DRE or Fr. Mark at the parish office ASAP. Why should I or my teen use this service? We have decided to use Remind for safe and effective personal communication. If your teen elects to use this service, he/she will only receive the messages sent to the whole “class,” sent to his/her peers so that helpful, personal communication can be achieved without the possibility of it becoming private communication. If you enroll in the class along with your teen, you will receive the same messages; in this small way you can protect and support your teen from a distance while waiting for him/her to respond to aspects of his/her faith formation with increasing maturity and responsibility. Lastly, some information, such as unexpected event cancellations, will only be communicated via Remind.

4 2017-18 Faith Formation Calendar For Mandatory Events

There will be two semesters each comprised of ten mandatory Faith Formation events (20 total throughout the year). The events will be on Sundays from 6 pm to approximately 7:30 pm. During that time, the teens will be fed, play games, receive a catechetical or theological lesson, participate in a semester devotion (Rosary, Liturgy of the Hours, or Adoration and Benediction), and engage in small group discussions. Throughout the year, we will organize 2-3 service projects, and each teen will be required to attend at least one for the year (details are forthcoming).
