Exceptional Dedication and Support for College Practices, Procedures, and Policies

2016 Staff Member of the Year Award

PURPOSE:

The Montgomery College Staff Member of the Year Award is intended to recognize and inspire staff members who consistently exemplify and sustain excellence and exceptional performance, leadership, and service that have a broad impact on the college-wide community. This award will be presented to the selected eligible associate or support staff member who has achieved a performance evaluation rating of “exceeds expectations” or “far exceeds expectations” (the trigger) and has demonstrated excellence in three of five of the following categories:

·  Outstanding and notable customer service to students, faculty, staff, and/or the public that contributes to the Montgomery College brand

·  Extraordinary public service to the College or to the greater community (i.e., has made a difference in the larger community in a collaborative and sustained manner through their role at the College such as dedication to a particular project or cause that has improved the greater community)

·  Exceptional dedication and support for College practices, procedures, and policies

·  Initiative, in depth problem-solving, improved effectiveness and efficiency resulting in improved processes, improved student outcomes, and/or cost savings for the College

·  Inspiration to others (such as continuous learning efforts, demonstrating MC core values, demonstrated leadership, mentorship within the last 3-5 years)

ELIGIBILITY:

·  Any active full-time associate or support staff member (exempt, non-exempt, bargaining, non-bargaining) in good standing* who has been employed by the College for 3 consecutive years or more

·  An associate or support staff member may receive the same award more than one time as long as at least 7 years have intervened

*An active associate or support staff member in good standing means that (i) Employee’s employment with the College has not been terminated for any reason; (ii) Employee is not on probation of any kind at the College; (iii) Employee has not given notice of voluntary termination (resignation); (iv) Employee has not received written notice from supervision concerning disciplinary action or performance management, and (v) Employee has no outstanding financial obligation to the College. The employee must be active and in good standing at the time of nomination as well as on the date that the award is paid out.

NOMINATION PROCESS AND PACKET:

Guidelines

·  Self-nomination is not be permitted

·  All Montgomery College employees may nominate an eligible Montgomery College peer/colleague for a staff of the year award

·  Nominators must work with appropriate College individuals (i.e., nominee, supervisors, administrators) to assemble a comprehensive and completed nomination packet to be submitted to by April 15, 2016

·  Montgomery College reserves the right to not present an award when suitable selection cannot be made

Nomination Packet:

A complete nomination packet must be submitted for each nominee that includes the following documents, organized in the order listed:

1)  Nomination Cover Sheet

2)  Nominator’s Letter (maximum of 2 pages based on nomination criteria)

3)  Nominee’s Position Description

4)  Supporting Materials (necessary to acquaint the respective committees with the nature and qualities of the nominee’s accomplishments)

a)  Concise and accurate description of accomplishments (based on nomination criteria)

b)  Nominee’s updated profile from Taleo or Current Resume/CV

c)  Letter of support from nominee’s supervisor and administrator

d)  3 letters of recommendation from peers/colleagues/students familiar with nominee’s current work

Please note that the senior vice president/chief of staff must review and approve nomination packets within their respective division.

Incomplete nomination packets will not be considered.

SUBMISSION OF NOMINATIONS:

Email completed nomination packets to by April 15, 2016. Please mark the subject line as Staff of the Year Award. All nomination packet information is required (only requested information will be considered). All nominators will receive an email confirmation acknowledging receipt of the package.

SELECTION PROCESS:

The selection process will be rigorous and competitive especially since this award represents the highest honor for staff members at Montgomery College. The selection committee will collaborate with the Office of Human Resources and Strategic Talent Management (HRSTM) and the Office of Business Services/Finance (OBS) to verify that nominees are in good standing. Winners will be announced at the End of Year Closing Meeting by President DeRionne Pollard.
