Page 1 of 3 What can a residency offer? Cambridge Junction invites applications from Troop members who are artists and producers working in any performance discipline (theatre, dance, circus, cabaret, spoken word, live art, physical theatre, etc) who would benefit from spending some time ‘in residence’ at the Cambridge Junction between January and May 2018 developing new work.

We can offer:  Space in our studio J3 or other spaces (details below)  Office and meeting room space to write / research / organise  Creative feedback & practical advice from the programming team  Assistance in writing a Grants for the Arts application  Signposting & introductions to partner organisations in the East / South East and beyond  Technical advice (by prior arrangement)  Informal showings of work in progress as part of your residency (we can invite other Troop members and Junction staff to provide you with a small audience)  For J3 residencies only: a slot to show your work in progress in Views from the ‘Bridge (subject to space and your work being at an appropriate stage of development)

Our spaces:  Our studio theatre J3 has a sprung floor, blackout curtains, and flexible seating  The chillout bar above J1 (our main gig space) can also be used. Slightly smaller than the studio but big enough for a small group to rehearse  The Hub seats approx. 8 people at a round table in a quiet, private room.  The Board Room seats up to 12 people and has a whiteboard. Less private than the Hub as the doors are glass.  There is also a quiet office space with a writing desk and round table with seating for 4 next to our main office (the Old Directors’ Office).

SPACE DATES & TIMES AVAILABLE AUTUMN 2017 J3 Monday to Friday (excluding bank holidays) from 10am until 6pm (5.45pm on Mondays). Generally we only offer whole weeks – one per artist / company. J1 Bar Bookable on an ad hoc basis Monday to Friday 10am The Hub until 3pm – ask us about availability. The Boardroom NB. The J1 bar can sometimes be used later in the Old Directors’ Office day depending on what’s booked into J1. It can be noisy in the afternoon due to soundchecks below.

Details of spaces including dimensions, specifications etc. can be found here http://www.junction.co.uk/hires/technical If you would like a tour of the spaces please contact us.

Who can apply?  Artists & producers whose practice sits within the contemporary performing arts (theatre, dance, circus, cabaret, spoken word, live art, physical theatre, etc) and who have some track record of producing and showing work in a professional context.  You must be a member of Troop which means you must live or work in Cambridge or the East of England and have completed the Troop application process (including paying the subscription fee).

It is useful (but not essential) to secure additional support before applying. If you have established contacts in organisations and companies in the East or South East (or elsewhere), see if they are interested in providing

Page 2 of 3 some support in-kind such as mentoring, studio space, cash or advice. Details of these discussions can be included in the initial application.

Applying for Funding For some successful applicants, depending on the level of development of your project and other support you have in place, it might be appropriate to apply for funding from Grants for the Arts to support your residency. However, you should note that this is subject to a competitive application process and is not guaranteed to succeed (and there are exemptions such as full-time students – check the guidance for details). Applications for £15K and under take six weeks to reach decision, so you should build this into your timescale as well as the time to write the application. The support we offer as part of the residency counts as support inkind towards the match funding needed to make a successful G4A application. We can offer help with submitting an application as part of your support package.
