What has emerged is a moment that gives space for reflection: on ways to deal with the collective responsibility of inheriting a planet in climate crisis. El Dessau-Roßlau, Hadi Jazairy and Rania Ghosn of Design Earth look at ten UNESCO World 22 June 2021 Heritage Sites as figures in the climate crisis and try to concretely locate the abstract of climate change in these iconic places. The case studies show a broad spectrum of climate impacts: from rising sea levels to species extinc- tion and melting glaciers. The interlude visualises events that divide and de- fine the planetary past and future - including systemic patterns of violence, racism and displacement. Design Earth is a project by Hadi Jazairy and Rania Ghosn. Rania Ghosn is an architect and geographer. She works at the Massachusetts Institute of 1 Technology (MIT) School of Architecture + Planning. In Dessau-Roßlau, 2020, Yael Aloni and Monika Stadler, the daughters of Gunta Stölzl, donated 22 June 2021 four original fabric samples for upholstery and curtain fabrics by textile de- signer Otti Berger to the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation. The Bauhausler had once donated the fabric samples from the early 1930s to her colleague Gunta Stölzl. 2 von 2 Fabric design made of artificial silk and cotton, attributed to Otti Berger, ca. 1932-34, The Intermezzo Design Earth.
