A summary of the Club’s achievements this past season follows: On Field: Premiers 2nd XI (Thomson Shield), U14C (JD Norman Shield), ECA Veterans (Division 3), ECA Veterans (Division 5). Runners Up: 1st XI (Dunstan Shield), Veterans (BHRDCA – Legends B), ECA U17 girls (Anna Lanning Shield). Participation: A total of 225 players represented Mont Albert Cricket Club in season 2016/17. Joel Guley led all comers with 24 matches for the season, closely followed by Quentin McLean on 23 and Luke Pich on 22. Some significant milestones were reached this season.Jeff Mollison became the first player in MACC history to reach600senior games for the club. Along with Jeff’s achievements, at this year’s presentation night we also celebrated Hal Jones’ 50thyear at the Mont Albert cricket Club. The longevity, loyalty and commitment to the Mont Albert Cricket Club from these 2 players isincredible and should be celebrated. James Wright also achieved the milestone of 200 senior games this season. Thank you to the committee, captains, coaches, team managers and volunteers for your efforts throughout the season. Jack Joslin’s hard work over a number of years saw finals campaigns for the first XI in both the Kookaburra T20 competition as well as the Dunstan Shield (where we unfortunately fell at the last hurdle). Jack’s leadership will see the first XI push to go one better next year. Under the guidance of Jim Alexander, our junior program continues to develop. Jim’s commitment over a number of years has seen an increase in the number of junior teams, as well as an ever growing girls program. There are some exciting developments in our junior program on the way. Dani Hedley was a welcome addition to the committee, playing a significant role in junior advertising and recruitment. Through her efforts, our Milo numbers grew to more than 50 children, who along with their parents, enjoyed their Friday nights under the guidance of Rick Barker and Charlie Thorn. We entered our first ever team in the Milo T20Blast competition, which was led by Howard Bertus. We are hopeful that the introduction tocricket that these players receive will see them transition to long term players at the club. In her first year on the committee, Dani was also instrumental in organising the junior photographs, and along with Sue Jackson ran another successful Ladies Luncheon in support of the McGrath Foundation. A number of other successful social events were held, with Chris Jackson once again coordinating these events. Pete Guley and Wayne Hawkin’s Melbourne Cup Calcutta was a highlight, and looks set to be a fixture on the MACC social calendar. Wayne Harris led a resurgent veteran’s program. A reduction to 3 teams meant we were not as pressured for numbers, which translated to on field success. All three teams made the grand final with 2 Premierships added to the trophy cabinet. Thank you to Harvey Jones for managing the website and laying the foundations for a new online clothing range, and to Tim Wrightand Dale Greedy for your service on the committee. As always, special mention should be made of Jack Wright, Roger Smith, Peter Burchall and Richard Harding who are the best group of clubmen and volunteers we could hope for.Peter Coombs did another outstanding job as first XI scorer and Rick Barker once again undertook the unenviable task of Chairman of Selectors. Thank you to Peter Knox (President) andAllen Burton (Treasurer)for their continued support and service to the Mont Albert Cricket Club. Thank you to all of our sponsors for their generous support. This year’s Chris Dunning Trophy (Secretary’s award for best report) required those submitting reports to use the words ‘dynamic’ and ‘stumped’ in the same sentence. 4th XI captain (and newly appointed life member) Allen Burton is the recipient of this year’s award for the most contextual (although not entirely complimentary) use. Congratulations to the trophy winners for season 2016-17. The winners of the various awards for the season are as follows; SENIORS Batting Bowling 1st XI Eddie Wilson Brett Watkins 2nd XI Nick Adgemis Greg Cull 3rd XI Rick Barker Tim Noble 4th XI Allen Burton Ben Chipp 5th XI Gus Mclean Luke Pich Veterans (Gold) XI Jim Alexander Don Williams Veterans (Red) XI Jeff Mollison Andrew Heath Veterans (Purple) XI David Corrigan Bruce Wilson Best Allrounder 1st& 2nd XI’s (H.J.R. When taken with a much improved Qtr Final appearance in the ECA T20 competition an U17 Girls runner up and a Premiership for the U14Cs then we have had a very strong year on field. Additionally, we added a twilight T20 Blast team on a Friday, our Milo into Cricket group is thriving, we contributed 5 players to the ECA U21team including the Captain and Vice Captain (Andrew Padbury and James Guley) and 3 members of the ECA Dunstan Shield team of the year (Andrew Padbury, Brett Watkins & Eddie Wilson). Our Junior section continued to build under Jim Alexander’s leadership and at the other end of the scale Wayne Harris consolidation of the Veterans into 3 teams was very successful on and off field. Off field our new practice facilities are well advanced and will be ready for the start of the season. The new nets will greatly reduce setup and take down times, provide much needed training capacity and allow for a much more individualised and focussed approach to training with everyone training together and close to all our other facilities. With Dani Hedley and Sue Jackson leading; the McGrath Foundation Ladies Luncheon was again sold out with 120+ there on the day and is unquestionably a great day in the club calendar. Pete Guley and Wayne Hawkins brought all their know how to run a very successful first up Melbourne Cup Calcutta – watch this one it will be better again next season. So it’s not surprising that one of our more experienced senior off field prognosticators and contributors has remarked to me that he is “stumped if he can recall a time when the Club has been in more dynamic shape”.
