Certificates Registration is a means of identification, to establish ownership for competition and/or sale purposes and if need be, proof of identification. Registration certificates do not represent legal proof of ownership. They are issued for EPRA purposes only on information provided by members of the EPRA. All paperwork lodged must be accompanied by the correct fees. a) Lodgment of paperwork will only be accepted from a financial member of the EPRA at time of lodgment. Application and all details thereon shall be completed and/or signed by the owner, including the full name, address and signature of the owner, or owners. b) Any application can be refused by the EPRA. The EPRA is not obliged to give any reasons for refusal. c) Registration may be cancelled or revoked if information is determined to be false or mis-representation of such horse. d) EPRA encourages safe breeding practices, factsheets are available on our website for downloading to assist in creating awareness and better understanding to our members of inherited genetic traits, undesirable characteristics and common horse health issues. e) The owner must advise the EPRA of any errors within 30 days of processing, with identification or anomalies that are inconsistent with the application. 2. Correction or Alteration to Certificates Correction or Alteration of any original registration certificate can be obtained upon written application from the owner or leasee, provided that: a) The EPRA approves the alteration. Page 1 b) The owner or leasee provides information as may be required to ensure that the correction or alteration is valid. c) All corrections or alterations must be made by the EPRA. d) Any certificate which has been altered in any way without authorisation by EPRA is liable to cancellation. The Equine Performance Registry of Australia is a registry that accommodates DNA parent verified and optional reported genetic disorders in all breeds of horses. Registration also allows members to establish a portfolio for their performance horse/s, which increases value and marketability of those horse/s within the industry. 3. For a horse to be considered for the Equine Performance Registry it must: a) Be a stallion, mare or a gelding. b) Have DNA on file and is Parent Verified through a testing facility accepted by the EPRA. DNA markers and registration certificate must be provided on application to EPRA, if the horse is already registered and parent verified with another breed society/association. c) Genetic testing and inherited defects results will be disclosed on the registration certificate stating negative, carrier, or afflicted as reported from a testing facility accepted by the EPRA. d) All optional genetic testing conducted at time of registration, remains property of the registered owner until change over ownership takes place and EPRA are advised of such change. e) Breeding certification has been completed on the registration application or has been lodged by the stallion owner at time of service, if applying for a new horse registration. 4. All horses accepted into the Equine Performance Registry will: a) Receive a numerical number and detailed three (3) generation pedigree with reference to both sire and dam using breeding codes listed on the registration certificate (see glossary below). b) Be eligible to compete in a wide range of performance classes and recognition towards EPRA annual national and state high point awards. 5. Horses Imported into Australia: a) EPRA will accept an application for registration for Horses Imported into Australia if a copy of the DNA markers, parent verification and any genetic test results are received with the application. b) Owner must be a full financial member of EPRA and must be the name listed on the registration certificate issued by relevant breed society/association. Page 2 c) Horses accepted as an Import will be registered with the same name as that recorded with the breed society/association and will have the letters relevant to country of origin, for example USA, NZL, CAN, JPN, as well IMP after its name. 6. Stallions for Imported Semen: a) EPRA will accept an application for a stallion to be registered for Imported Semen if the stallion is registered with an overseas breed society/association. b) A copy of the original registration certificate is lodged with the application. c) Owner must be a full financial member of EPRA and must be the name listed on the registration certificate issued by relevant breed society/association. d) A copy of the DNA markers, parent verification and any genetic test results are received with the application. A stallion accepted for Imported Semen will be registered with the same name as that recorded with the breed society/association and will have the letters relevant to country of origin for example USA, NZL, CAN, JPN, as well as IS (Imported Semen) after its name. 7. Horses Imported in Utero or Horses born En Route to Australia: a) EPRA will accept an application for registration for Horses Imported in Utero or Horses born En Route to Australia if a copy of the DNA markers, parent verification and any genetic test results are received with the application. b) Horses accepted as Imported in Utero will be registered with the same name as that recorded with the breed society/association and will have the letters relevant to country of origin for example USA, NZL, CAN, JPN, as well as well IIU after its name. NB: Breeding practices including, but not limited to Frozen Embryo and Imported Frozen Oocyte, Domestic/Imported Retained Semen Permits, Domestic Embryo Permits, Domestic Oocyte Permits please contact Equine Performance Registry for further information. 8. Horses produced by Cloning: a) EPRA will accept an application for registration for Horses produced by Cloning, or progeny of a Clone if a copy of the DNA markers, parent verification and any genetic test results are received with the application. b) Owner must be a full financial member of EPRA and must be the name listed on the registration certificate issued by relevant breed society/association/registry. A copy of the donor’s registration certificate, as well as any DNA and cloning reports/documents for the donor must be provided. c) The combination of Genetic Marker Report and mitochondrial DNA sequence report will be used to show that the application for registration submitted for such Clone is in fact a clone. Page 3 d) Horses accepted as a Clone will be registered with the same name as that recorded with the breed society/association/registry and will have the letters relevant to country of origin, for example USA, NZL, CAN, JPN, as well C after its name. 9. Horses of Unknown Breeding: a) EPRA will accept an application for registration for horses with all unknown breeding if the horse has DNA on file and optional genetic test results are received or requested with the application. b) EPRA requires four quality photos of the horse to accompany the registration application: one front, one back, and one of each side. This media becomes property of EPRA and will not be returned to you. c) EPRA will include one quality photo onto the horse’s registration certificate. 10. Forebearers: Forebearers are the sire and dam of progeny that have been accepted for EPRA registration, a) As an imported horse; b) For imported semen; c) As born in Utero; d) As born en route to Australia; e) Referenced according to EPRA breed codes; f) Referenced as unknown breeding. NB: Forebearers are not registered with the EPRA. 11. Undesirable Characteristics: The number and degree of undesirable characteristics, and/or defects present in a horse, will determine whether it is acceptable to the EPRA for registration. Including but not limited, too Umbilical Hernia, Cryptorchid or Monorchid, Overshot or Undershot Jaw and Parrot Mouth. 12. Age of A Horse: The age of a horse will be calculated on the basis of a breeding calendar year starting 1st August every year. For example, a horse foaled any time between 1st August, 2016 and 31st July, 2017 (weanling) for the breeding records the foal is a 2016 born horse. It is considered to be one (1) year old on 1st August, 2017 (yearling) and two (2) years old on 1st August, 2018. 13. Name of A Horse: Each horse will be given a name by the owner acceptable to the EPRA. Page 4 a) If the horse is not registered, three (3) name choices must be provided for selection by EPRA and the name cannot exceed 25 characters, including spaces. b) The name of a horse once registered will not be changed. c) Numerals and any form of punctuation are not acceptable in a name. 14. Colouring: Any misdescribed or inaccurately described horse is liable to be deregistered. Any horse possessing a body colour listed below, but having 75% of their body covered with white hairs will have the word ‘Roan’ after the colour of the horse. Four (4) quality photos of the horse must accompany the registration application: one front, one back, and one of each side. These may be printed photos, on a flash drive or emailed to [email protected] This media becomes property of EPRA and will not be returned to you.
