Here is what our Stephen Ministers studied last week. Continue to pray for them as they grow in their ability to bring Christ’s love and care to people as a ministry of our congregation. Dealing with Depression: The Stephen Minister’s Role / Helping Suicidal Persons Get the Help They Need: Last week, our Stephen Ministers learned the characteristics and symptoms of mild, moderate, and severe depression, how to help someone who is or might be suicidal, and when a mental health professional needs to be involved. Supervision: A Key to Quality Christian Care (Parts 1 & 2): Stephen Ministers receive twice-monthly supervision once they begin providing care. Supervision ensures that Stephen Ministers provide the best care possible, yet is done in a way that keeps the identity of the care receiver and details of his or her situation confidential. “What is a Stephen Minister?” One way to put it is that Stephen Ministers are the “After People.” after the phone call you hoped you’d never get. after the funeral, when everyone has left and the emotions come crashing in on you. after the relationship falls apart and the bottom falls out of your life. after the doctor says, “I’m sorry, but there’s nothing more we can do.” after the nursing home director shakes your hand and says, “Welcome to your new home.” after the last child honks the horn, waves, and drives away—and the house suddenly seems empty. after the gavel comes down, the handcuffs go on, and your loved one is led away. after the baby arrives, demanding more of you than you ever dreamed possible. after you find a pink slip with your final paycheck. after your family and friends have heard your story one too many times, but you still need to talk. If you are in need of confidential, one-to-one Christian care—or if you have a friend, neighbor, coworker, or relative who might benefit from this kind of care—talk to our pastor or a Stephen Leader. There are 15 Stephen Ministers in training: Jenny Buckman, Eva Bowlin, John Carrico, Kim Dossett, Carol & Eddie Elder, Terry & Leonard Foss, Joyce Hayden, Karen Shupe, Mary Ann Thomas, David Thompson, Denis Wilson, Janet Wilson and Marie Woodrum. GWe are delighted to have you visit with us here at St. Jerome Catholic Church. We hope your visit with us has been a happy and faith-filled experience. 2 $%& Luke 4:1-13 “Filled with the Holy Spirit , Jesus returned from the Jordon and was led by the Spirit into the desert for forty days to be tempted by the devil.” In the gospel we are presented with an insight and challenge. Sometimes we are most distressed by the faults of others that we also notice subconsciously in ourselves. Questions for you or your family members: Jesus said, “One does not live by bread alone.” What are you hungry for? Select one of the tree temptations—possessions, popularity, power and ask yourself which one most allures you to ask God for insight and healing. What is something or someone that is hard for you to say no to even if you should? Why? ! "!!"# At the entrances to the church, there are prayer cards for our children, youth, and adults who are in preparation to celebrate one or all three of the sacraments of initiation in the near future. You are invited to support them by taking one of each color and praying for the person on the front of the card, and the entire group listed on the backside of the card. If you are inclined, a card in the mail is always appreciated and treasured. Thank you for your prayerful support. #"!!! The Lenten small group options are: Monday at 10:00 AM at the home of Teresa Hobbs. Wednesday at 6:30 PM in the Parish Center and Friday at 8:00 AM in the Parish Center. Please contact the parish office if you have any concerns or questions. !#& Death by Minivan by Heather Anderson Renshaw. Here's a bit of advice, mom to mom: Throw down the minivan keys, brush the cereal off the table, kick the toys into a corner, sit down with a cup of coffee (or glass of wine), and read Death by Minivan. Author Heather Anderson Renshaw, mother of five, is a lot like you. She knows all about the wild, crazy, and often hilarious experience of motherhood. And she feels sometimes like she's barely keeping up and maybe even failing at the whole “mom thing.” Thankfully, as she shares in these pages, motherhood isn't a trip that's meant to be taken alone. God's got this, and the more we let him lead, the more we find the fruits of his Holy Spirit taking root in our hearts and in our fami- lies. So buckle up, because you're on the road to a more joyful, more peaceful, more faithful motherhood. YOUTH MINISTRY *March 10, 17, 24, 31 — PRE for K—11.
