Geography Study Guide Parents, our Geography Test is Friday, September 15. Please review these skills with your child. This study guide does not have to be completed. Students can use any information in their folders. They will be able to use the study guide for ten minutes. Cardinal Intermediate Be able to identify Directions Directions North Northeast Map Key South Southeast Scale East Northwest Title West Southwest Compass Rose Different types of Maps – 1. Political Map – Shows country borders 2. Climate Map – Shows weather and Temperature 3. Population Map – Shows number of people living in an area 4. Physical Map – Shows land features like mountain regions 5. Resource Map – Shows the natural resources of an area. Definitions to know by filling in the blanks. Map Key A table of symbols or pictures on a map Intermediate The directions in between the Cardinal Directions Directions Equator The imaginary line of latitude that divides the earth into the Northern and Southern hemispheres. Cardinal The main directions on a compass rose (North, South, East, West) Latitude Imaginary lines on a map that run east from west around the globe Compass Rose A picture on a map that shows the directions. Longitude Lines on a map that run from the North Pole to the South Pole Continents Seven large masses of land that cover the Earth Hemisphere One half of the earth. The equator divides the earth into the northern and southern hemispheres. The Prime Meridian divides the earth into the eastern and western hemispheres. International The line of Longitude where a new day begins Date Line Be able to determine what natural resources are found in an area using a resource map. Be able to locate a place on the map using lines of latitude and longitude. What state is located at 80W and 40N What state is located at 100 W and 30 N Be able to name: Your city: Auburn Your state: Alabama Your Country: The United States of America Your Continent: North America Your Planet: Earth .
