This year 60 teams are involved in age groups ranging from Under 12 through to Under 16 and geographically from one end of Queensland to the other. The Under 12’s are being hosted by Darling Downs and South West Queensland in Toowoomba. Under 13’s are being hosted by Cairns Cricket in Cairns, while the Under 14’s are being hosted by Mackay Whitsunday in Mackay. Townsville Cricket is hosting the Under 15 teams and Brisbane North host the Under 16 teams at Brisbane Grammar Northgate Complex in Brisbane. On behalf of QJC I would like to sincerely thank all the people around the state who are involved in hosting the championships. The championships could not continue without your effort and support. I know you will get great satisfaction in helping to develop our best young players both on and off the cricket fields over the next five days. I would also like to acknowledge the contributions of all the coaches, managers, scorers and parents, whose efforts contribute so much to the success of the championships. Most of these people give up a large part of their annual leave to be involved and your effort and dedication is very much appreciated by your Associations and Queensland Junior Cricket. I also need to thank Kookaburra Sporting Goods for their generous contribution to this week of cricket. This is the second year that Kookaburra have provided cricket balls free of charge and over three hundred cricket balls are used with an equivalent dollar value of around $12,000. This is an enormous contribution and QJC requests that you consider Kookaburra when purchasing balls and other cricket equipment in the future. To the parents – a special thanks, as you provide the funds to allow the players to take part in this week of cricket. Please be assured that QJC is doing everything in our power to restrain costs, but we need to balance cost, while still providing centres that have adequate facilities to stage this week of cricket. Finally to the players – we wish you every success. Play the game hard, but play fair and show respect to fellow players both on and off the field. We have had some behaviour issues both on and off the field in the past two years and it needs to stop. I will be instructing our QJC Representatives in each centre to ensure good behaviour is maintained and any issues will be dealt with – whether it is committed by a player or official. Please travel safely on your return journeys and have a Merry Xmas and a Happy, Safe and Prosperous New Year.
