This edition completes three years of Rural Roundup and it is still as popular as ever. Copy seems to roll in every monThanks to all, but owing to the limited space available I will have to ask Clubs & Organisations to try and limit the length of articles to half a page maximum 300 words. The only fair way to include everyone. As you well know, we rely heavily on your donations to be able to produce Rural Roundup, so any contributions, as usual, for this coming year will be most welcome. Ringwould residents have already passed over their collection of £112 to the treasurer; thanks very much. I do hope this weather clears up soon. It‟s quite a contrast to temperatures I experienced over Christmas. By the way, don't forget to feed the birds. Ed. Would you like a faster internet connection? Are you frustrated with the speed you have now? An improved service is possible. Whether you work from home or just wish to download TV programmes or manipulate photography a reliable high speed internet connection is essential. The Government have promised to help those living in rural areas through their Make Kent Quicker Project. Companies have been asked to tender but it appears that smaller areas like ours are still unlikely to benefit from any new upgrades. I have been in contact with an independent company called V Fast.- www.vfast.co.uk They have an operating system in Kent which would be available to Ringwould. Having visited the village and carried out a survey they can give us a 15Mbps supply using a small transmitter that would be placed on the church tower There would be an installation charge of £99 per household and a new router would be required. The monthly rental would be £24.99 If you would be interested in discussing this further please email me on [email protected] David Evison, Northgate, Church Lane 5 6 Services in February 2013 Date Kingsdown Ringwould Sutton Ripple 8am (BCP) rd 3 February Holy Communion 9.30am Sunday @6 11am Morning Prayer 11.00 Holy Communion Studdal Hall Holy Communion th 10 February 11.00am 9.30am (BCP) Matins 11.00am (BCP) 8 am (BCP) Holy Communion Matins Holy Communion th 13 Ash 10am Holy Communion. 7.30pm Wednesday Well Cottage Holy Communion 8am (BCP) th 17 February Holy Communion 9.30am 11.00am 6.00pm (BCP) 11.00am Holy Communion Holy Communion Evensong Funday Sunday 4pm 24th February 11.00am 9.30am Messy Church 8am (BCP) Holy Communion Prayer and Praise At Studdal Hall Holy Communion For weekday services please check weekly news sheets or the website www.ringwouldchurch.com/’diary’ There are usually: Monday – Sutton Parish Prayers @9.30am in Studdal Hall; Wednesday 10am Well Cottage, Kingsdown, Holy Communion (BCP) Services using the Book of Common Prayer are marked (BCP) Dear Friends, When I speak with people about weddings, baptisms or funerals the conversation so often ends with “if only I had known…”, so I thought that I would start this year with a quiz. So, are the following statements true or false? 1. You can‟t get married in your parish church if you have been divorced. 2. You have to be baptised to get married in church. 3. It costs a fortune to get married in church 4. You have to live in the parish to marry in the church. 5. You have to attend church every week to have your child baptised. 6. Baptisms can only take place during a Sunday morning service. 7. The State subsidises the church. 8. The church is very wealthy. So, how did you get on, because all the above statements are false, but to give you a little more information: You can indeed get married in church if one or both parties have been divorced. Even with the very best of intentions, things can and do go wrong. The church understands this and wants to give everyone the very best start to their married life, and what better start than to ask God to be there at your wedding. As far as the cost of getting married in a church is concerned, it is somewhere in the region of £500 - usually a small fraction of the overall costs of a wedding. And finally, you can now get married in a church if you “have a connection” with the church. How- ever, if you don‟t have a connection you can still get married if you attend services once a month for at least six months before you want to get married.
