Annual Report 2017/2018 President’S Report

ANNUAL REPORT 2017/2018 PRESIDENT’S REPORT Another season has come and gone, and we congratulate all players and friends from St Pats community on another successful season. This year saw some changes in the game formats for Both men’s and the juniors. We had 3 T20 Blast teams commencing their cricket careers. Run at Kareela Oval the modified format was a great success and we look forward to building on this success in future seasons. In the younger age groups, we saw changes in the number of fielder’s length of pitch and smaller Boundaries. The results were increase participation more shots played and more fun resulting. Look out for further changes to the game format in 18/19 season. In the men’s competition we saw the reduction in overs in the 2 day format from 60 to 50. I think the majority of players preferred the newer format and the earlier finish. Congratulations to our 2 premiership winning teams – 16B-1 and the B4 men’s teams. Special thanks to all the committee members this year. Whilst it is a small group of people they work very well together to get almost 30 teams on the paddocks each season. A number of the committee are looking to retire so I would encourage anyone who would like to assist in the CluB to step up no matter how small the contriBution. One of the success factors the committee has achieved is produce a policy and procedure document which outlines what needs to Be done, By whom and By when. The CluB was again supported By our friends at the Tradies and we thank them for their continued support. Hope everyone enjoys their winter activities and look forward to seeing you back with St Pats in the 2018/2019 season. I had the pleasure of coaching Sam as an Under 8, way Back in 2009 and again for the last year of his junior cricket career. As a result, I have had a front row seat watching the development of this young cricketer. An aBsolute cricket tragic who not only would pour over the statistics of his team and opposition But constantly working on developing his game. Initially a swing Bowler in the younger age groups Sam then developed his off spin as well as his Batting culminating in a regular top order Batsman in the 16A this season and opening the Batting in the men’s competition. A regular representative player from the U11 right through to this season Being in the Watson Shield team. Overall Sam played 92 matches for St Pats over 10 years accumulating 749 runs and 78 wickets. Cricket is not all aBout stats and games played, it’s the manner in which you play the resilience you show when things don’t go your way. Sam has always played within the right spirit and is a great teammate. It has been a great journey watching the little Blonde 6 year old Back in 2009 to the young man he is today. Wish him all the best for the future Both and off the field. CHRIS HEWITT Page 5 of 60 Junior Cricketer of the Year – James Morrison Pretty simple to sum Jimmy up – a great cricketer But a Better person. Jimmy is there for the team and to help out his mate’s. He plays cricket how it should Be played; fun, challenging, looking for personal and team Bests, But always fair and in the right spirit. Jimmy is a talent, he can Bat, Bowl and field. Quick Between the wicket and also quick Between the ears. Jimmy was our most consistent Batsmen and tied top wicket taker. Hit a few sixes throughout the year and was graceful to watch. I am proud of him and I am sure all previous coaches and team mates would echo my remarks that this young man deserves this accolade and is a champion person.
