
My Coat of Arms Objective: To create a personal coat of arms using proper heraldic symbols to tell your story. Step one: Explore the symbols and colors of heraldry. Step two: Decide on your symbols and colors. Step three: Design your coat of arms. Step four: Create your coat of arms using poster board. Step five: Display your coat of arms in class. Be prepared to explain your symbols and colors. Guidelines: 1. The coat of arms must have at least three divided sections. 2. The coat of arms must be multi-colored. 3. The coat of arms must have at least seven symbols. 4. The coat of arms must be at least 18 inches wide and 22 inches long. 5. The coat of arms is due on October 28. You will have class time to work on this project on October 19 and October 26. Coat of Arms Colors: Yellow or gold (Or) – Generosity and/or Intelligence White or silver (Argent) – Peace and sincerity Red (Gules) – Warrior or martyr; Military strength Blue (Azure) – Truth and loyalty Green (Vert) – Hope, joy, and loyalty in love Black (Sable) – Constancy (dependability) or grief Purple (Purpure) – Royalty; sovereignty; justice Orange (Tawny or Tenne) – Worthy ambition Maroon (Sanguine or Murray) – Patient and victorious in battle Shapes: Below are your two options for shapes. Heraldic Lines and Patterns: Nebuly Line Clouds or air Wavy Line Sea or water Engrailed Line Earth or land Invected Line Earth or land Indented Line Fire Dancette Line Water Raguly Line Difficulties that have been encountered Embattled Line Walls of a fortress or town (also, fire) Symbols: There are many heraldic symbols. You may use as many as you wish. You are also required to create at least two symbols of your own to describe you.
