Svenskt Tenn Introduces Works by Five Contemporary Swedish Designers

Press Release Stockholm, October 2, 2014 Svenskt Tenn introduces works by five contemporary Swedish designers Svenskt Tenn continues its collaboration with leading contemporary designers, just like company founder Estrid Ericson did in her time. The new exhibition introduces products exclusively made for Svenskt Tenn by no less than five Swedish designers. Svenskt Tenn has previously collaborated with Ingegerd Råman, Monica Förster and Sebastian Schildt, while Gustaf Nordenskiöld and Jonas Bohlin are new designer partnerships. “Estrid Ericson gave assignments to Uno Åhrén, Björn Trägårdh and other designers to create products for Svenskt Tenn, many of which have become classic items that are still in our range today,” said Thommy Bindefeld, Marketing Director at Svenskt Tenn. “While the future will tell which of the products we now introduce that will achieve such status, I do believe they all possess the requisite qualities of design, handicraft and materials.” Monica Förster (1966) has created what she calls a “Jewelry Bird” of pewter and brass. This comes in two shapes, Swan and Hummingbird. Sebastian Schildt (1964), mostly known as a jewelry designer, has shaped a wine cooler using pewter, brass and glass. Ingegerd Råman (1943) has drawn a series of four glass pieces; Champagne glass, Wine glass and two Seltzer glasses, handcrafted by the Skruf glassworks. Jonas Bohlin (1953) has designed an ash dinner table on an iron base, with wound leather details and brass feet. Brass is also used for the wall hanger “Knopp” by Gustaf Nordenskiöld (1966). This is available in three variants to hang your dressing gown, bag or coat, or just for being there. Gustaf Nordenskiöld has also designed a drinking glass handcrafted by the Skruf glassworks. All the new items are showcased in the table setting exhibition which runs at the Svenskt Tenn store in Stockholm through November 3. They are also available for sale, except for the Jewelry Bird which arrives November 6, and Knopp, in the store by November 14. In 1934, she began her lifelong collaboration with Josef Frank, already an internationally well-known architect, urban planner and designer, who had recently left Austria to take up residence in Sweden. Together, the two laid the foundations for the interior design philosophy that Svenskt Tenn has since come to represent, combining Estrid Ericson's artistic talent and entrepreneurial spirit with Josef Frank's inspired and timeless designs to form what was soon to become a highly successful concept. Svenskt Tenn is owned by the Kjell and Märta Beijer Foundation. .
