Space Camp Invitation Are you interested in a FREE trip to Space Camp? Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems Missile Defense & Controls Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems Missile Defense & Controls is pleased to announce its rst annual Space Camp Scholarship. We are proud that the work we do continues to advance human spaceight. As part of our ongoing human spaceight education outreach efforts, one fth grade student at Leeds Elementary will be selected to attend a week at Space Camp in Huntsville, AL. It is our goal, through this scholarship, to inspire a student to pursue a dream in a future STEM career and explore the marvels of space. What is Space Camp? Space Camp is an amazing opportunity for students to work as a team to prepare for a mission in space! Space Camp is located in Huntsville, Alabama and will take place for one week the summer of 2019. Activities include: -Astronaut training -Construct and launch your own rocket -Learn what it is like to live on-board the International Space Station -Discover the newest rocket that will carry NASA astronauts to Mars -Compete in camp-wide challenge nights -Hear from astronaut speakers... and so much more!! What is included in the scholarship prize? The scholarship prize will include the following: Tuition and registration fees for one week of Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama (all meals and lodging included) All related travel expenses for the selected student Rules: One scholarship will be awarded for one 5th grade student. The student must be available to attend Space Camp the summer of 2019. Family members of Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems' employees are not eligible. A completed essay must be entered on or before December 19th, along with signed parent consent. Contestant academic achievement and behavioral history will be taken into consideration. *Please note, this scholarship is non-transferable. The winner will be announced the week of January 21, 2019. Essay questions and guidelines: Why do you want to attend the Space Camp program? What do you hope to gain from this experience? Why should we choose you as the recipient of the rst ever Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems Missile Defense and Controls scholarship to Space Camp? Space Inspires! What about space inspires you? Is there a particular astronaut that inspires you? Who and why? Design a rocket to carry tourists to Mars. Explain the different elements of the rocket and why you chose them (Note – the pure artistry of the rocket is not what is being reviewed, more so the creativity of the design.) Essays will be scored on content, organization, grammar and mechanics by a team comprised of teachers, administrators, and Northrop Grumman representatives.
