OSNOVY publi CATALOGUE & RIGHTS DISTRIBUTION shing 2019 about Osnovy Publishing was founded in 1992 by Bohdan Krawchenko and Solomiya Pavlychko. Over the past twenty years, Osnovy has published over three hundred titles. After the collapse of the USSR, Ukraine critically needed literature in Ukrainian. Osnovy was created to fill this need. The editorial board – headed by Solomiya Pavlychko from 1992 to 1999 – focused on providing readers in the newly independent Ukraine with high quality translations of classic masterpieces and a wide range of academic works. Osnovy supplied a new generation of students with world-class publications in literature, economics, political science, sociology and other key disciplines. Osnovy has translated and published Aristotle, W. Shakespeare, W. Golding, H. Matsuura, J. Kerouac and other important authors from antiquity to the present day. In 2012, Osnovy published Franz Kafka’s collection of his early works Contemplation, stylized after its first printing in 1912. Osnovy has also published numerous fundamental works in philosophy – F. Nietzsche, Simone de Beauvoir, M. Foucault, S. Freud and many others. The textbooks Microeconomics and Macroeconomics (P. Samuelson and W. Nordhaus) and Fundamentals of Financial Accounting (G. Welsch and D. Short) helped students of the early 1990s through the transition to a market economy. Osnovy has also published a Ukrainian translation of renowned historian Norman Davies’ Europe: A History in 2001. This monumental work is currently in its seventh run. Osnovy is also proud of its own original titles. The works of D. Nalyvaiko, V. Lytvynov, M. Zerov, L. Kurbas, S. Pavlychko, D. Pavlychko and S. Yefremov have made valuable contributions to Ukrainian scholarship. In 2009 Osnovy released the ten volume extensive work Ukraine: Anthology of the Monuments of State Creation, compiled by V. Shevchuk, V. Lytvynov, I. Dziuba, D. Pavlychko, O. Slipushko, R. Movchan, Y. Slyvko and V. Serhiychuk. This is the only publication that fully and comprehensively outlines a thousand years of Ukrainian history through socio-political documents and artistic works. Today Osnovy is actively developing a new range of books – books with unique content and design, conceived of and created by Ukrainian authors, designers and illustrators.
