TELENOR FOUNDATION ANNUAL REPORT ON BUSINESS OPERATIONS IN 2018 INTRODUCTION By initiating and supporting projects, synchronised with the strategic direction of activity, Telenor Foundation contributes to the development of the society. All activities are carried out in cooperation with partners, and support of varied teams. Guided by the principle of implementing Goal 10 – reducing inequalities, within the strategic direction of our responsible business operations, Telenor Foundation endeavours to support integration of the society, by securing access to communication services for the greatest possible number of people. We support and initiate projects that create solutions with a clear aim of overcoming current social challenges of Serbia. Activities of the Foundation are directed at the fields of education, social inclusion of vulnerable groups, culture and arts, as well as environmental protection. Goals of Telenor Foundation promote positive sides of the Internet and set of norms that regulate behaviour in digital surroundings and influence the reduction of digital bullying. They are directed at the solution of important social, educational, cultural and health needs at the national level, general ecological development, as well as problems caused by natural disasters. Partnerships are made with state institutions and non-profit organisations, under the procedure required by the Statute. The right to participate in open calls for projects have all interested humanitarian organisations, non-governmental organisations, institutions and foundations registered in Serbia. A competent team assesses and selects the received ideas, and then also presentations of the applicants according to clear standards. Projects are forwarded to the Managing Board of Telenor Foundation, which at its session makes a decision which ideas to support. All partners have the obligation to submit for inspection a report on project progress and detailed survey of its results. STRUCTURE OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS The Managing Board of Telenor Foundation has five members. Mike Michel presides over the Foundation Board, and assumed the position of Telenor Serbia Chief Executive Officer (CEO) on October 8, 2018. Before joining Telenor Serbia, he was Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) in the telecommunication company Banglalink in Bangladesh. Also, Michel was CMO in Telenor Hungary, and Vice-President for Brand in Telenor Group, Norway. Michel has over twenty years of leadership experience in global telecommunication companies in the region, North America and Asia. He worked at different leading positions in Czech Republic, Serbia, Montenegro and Hungary. He spent five years in Serbia and Montenegro, leading commercial and business teams. He holds BA in Economics from “Simon Fraser” University, Canada. Mr Darinka Radojević, Special Advisor to the Minister of Environmental Protection She has extensive experience in the economy, education and coordination of multidisciplinary projects. From 2007, she acquired experience in the fields of environment, sustainable development and public sector reforms while working on several positions in the public sector, as the leader of the Group for Sustainable Development in the office of the Vice-Prime Minister for European Integrations, Secretary of the Council for Sustainable Development, Advisor of the Vice-Prime Minister for Public Sector Reforms and acting Assistant Director of the Directorate for Electronic Administration. She was an associate of several civil society organisations in the preparation and realisation of projects, seminars and trainings. She graduated and received a Master's degree from the Faculty of Technology and Metallurgy in Belgrade. Vladimir Bumbaširević, Professor of the Medical Faculty, University of Belgrade Professor Bumbasirevic is a full professor at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Belgrade, and as of 2009 he is a full member of the SASA. In the period from 2012 until October 2018, he was Head of the University of Belgrade. He is a member of different national and international medical societies, author of more than 70 scientific papers, co-author and editor of 2 books and 3 monographs. Apart from applying his acquired experience in his scientific work, he also used while actively participating in a large number of national and European projects (TEMPUS, FP6, etc.). Robert Čoban, President of Color Press Group Company Started his journalistic career as Novi Sad correspondent of the Belgrade “Večernje novosti“; Zagreb “Arena" and Sarajevo “Naši dani“. Today, he is Head of Color Press Group, largest publisher of magazines in the region, with companies in all six republics - 64 magazines, 11 internet portals and over 50 conferences a year. The company portfolio includes numerous licensed names: “The Economist“, “Hello!“, “Brava Casa“, “Bravo“, “Alan Ford“, “Grazia“, “Jamie Oliver Magazine“ and many others. Marija Vujanić, Director of Corporate Communications and Sustainable Development, Telenor d.o.o. Working for more than 15 years in public relations area, Marija gained her experience at a number of leading positions in corporate and non-governmental sectors, as well as PR Agencies. Before joining Telenor in 2012, she was PR and Citizenship Lead in Microsoft Serbia Company, and also Executive Director of Ecotopia Fund. She graduated from the Faculty of Economics, Belgrade University (2002). Milica Begenišić, Telenor Foundation Manager and Senior Expert for Sustainable Development and Event Organisation, Telenor d.o.o She started her career in the telecommunications industry in 2001. Milica gained rich experience working in various sectors of the company, from customer service through marketing to corporate communications, as well as from cooperation with a large number of external associates and government institutions. Over the years, through the organization of corporate events, she actively participated in the initiation and implementation of CR projects of Telenor Company and Telenor Foundation. AREAS OF ACTIVITY All activities of Telenor Foundation are focused on 4 basic fields, namely: Education Social inclusion of vulnerable groups Culture and arts, and Environmental protection Apart from the financial support, Telenor Foundation contributes to the implementation of projects with its capacities and knowledge, and precisely through activities in different areas it is focused on providing support to the Serbian society. REVIEW OF THE PROJECT ACTIVITIES IN AREAS OF WORK Telenor Foundation has implemented 10 projects in cooperation with 12 partner organisations. 4.1. Project activities and achieved results – Youth and Education Telenor Girls' Day in ICT On the occasion of marking the International Girls in ICT (Information Communication Technologies) Day, the Association of Business Women in Serbia, with our support, organised a competition Catch an Idea in the Digital World. The project target is to empower girls when selecting their future professions, as well as encourage them to be led by personal interests and talents when considering professional orientation. Finalists of this competition visited Telenor, talked to lady managers in leading positions in our company and, within the workshop, practiced to present their ideas as successfully as possible. After presenting the final works, the jury selected winners, whom Telenor Foundation awarded with smartphones. Telenor Girls’ Day was implemented with the institutional support of the Government of the Republic of Serbia and Prime Minister of the RS Government, Ana Brnabić, who was the honorary sponsor of the project. Improving Digital Literacy with ICT in Primary Schools in Serbia Within the project Improving Digital Literacy with ICT in Primary Schools in Serbia, which we started in 2017, ten primary schools in Serbia were equipped with Coprix interactive dictionaries, applications for learning mathematics and English language, interactive boards and tablets. Through interactive instruction, teachers were able to use adequate and modern teaching programme, with useful and creative ideas, which keep children’s attention during classes. The report on the students’ work, within the application, additionally makes the work easier and gives them a possibility to dedicate themselves to their students to the full. Thanks to this project, local communities got acquainted with the benefits of digital instruction, which in our country additionally contributes to the promotion of digital literacy from first school days. In the past school year interactive instruction reached 280 primary schools and included over 16,000 first graders. This project is implemented by the Civil Association Jerina’s Town (Jerinin grad) with the support of Telenor Foundation. Peer Education Against Digital Bullying At the closing conference in Velika Plana, results of the project Peer Education against Digital Bullying were presented. It was implemented by the Civil Association “The World of Words” (Svet reči), with the support of Telenor Foundation. During six months, in ten communities in Serbia 14 teachers and 36 peer educators were trained, who organised 120 workshops in their schools. Altogether 3,250 teenagers, from 12 to 19 years of age, learned how to behave safely and responsibly on the Internet. The extent to which primary and secondary school students have truly heard, learned and conveyed further the gained knowledge was testified to by short films that were sent within the competition organised after the educational workshops were finished.
