Top Seed Falls: With Andy Murray falling to Teymuraz Gabashvili in his opening match on Wednesday evening it marked the first time a top seed has lost in an opening round match in Washington since Ivan Lendl in 1993 (l. to Robbie Weiss). It was also Murray’s first opening round loss on hard courts (non round robin) since 2012 Indian Wells (l. to Garcia-Lopez). US Open Finalists Eye QF: US Open champion Marin Cilic is looking to reach his 5th ATP World Tour quarter-final of the year, while finalist Kei Nishikori is looking to reach his 11th. Cilic is playing in his first tournament since reaching the quarter-finals at Wimbledon for the second straight year (l. to eventual champ Djokovic again). Cilic is also the first reigning US Open champion to play in Washington since Andre Agassi in 2000.
