Ubuntu 20.04 Post-Installation Configuration Instructions After installing the 64-bit version of Ubuntu Linux 20.04 on your laptop, you will need to further onfigure your laptop to enable you to create and co"pile #$$ progra"s, and also to custo"i%e it for ease of use. &hese onfigurations instru tions are given below. 'o"e of these steps should not be executed if you have installed Ubuntu as a guest (' within )irtual*ox+ these steps are clearly "ar,ed Essential Configuration 1. Wireless Network -D N ! perfor" this step if you are running Ubuntu in )irtual*ox) (n the notification bar -top right portion of your screen., left-cli , on the drop down "enu icon. &hen, cli k on this drop down "enu arrow and cli k on .. 'ele t /etwork option. 0f you do not see any "ention of 1i-2i, cli , on 1i-2i settings and turn the 1i-2i on. 2ro" the visible networks list, sele t VUMobile. 1hen the wireless network authentication dialog box pops up, sele t the following options exactly as shown3 4 'ele t 56A5. 4 #he k the box. 4 'ele t 7'#8A5v2 4 9our L:A5 userna"e ; password -)U e"ail credentials. 4 #li k #onne t when done 0f a box pops up warning you that a certi! ate authority was not chosen, cli k on <ignore<. 9our laptop will now onne t auto"ati ally to )U7obile whenever you are within range of a )U7obile wireless a ess point. At this point, your syste" will download and install the synaptic pa kage "anager. 0f you get any errors, he k to "a,e sure that you have an a tive 0nternet onne tion. 4.2 Ne0t1 we use Synaptic to $ownloa$ an$ install ot.er re2uire$ #ackages/ 0n Ubuntu -and other Linux distributions), the package "anager "anages the downloading, installation and updating of all appli ations and supporting syste" libraries; it is the "aster application that interfa es with Ubuntu?s app store. Al"ost every software pa ,age -app. that you need should be downloaded through the pa ,age "anager. Although it is possible to install packages by dire tly downloading and installing the" -i.e. side-loaded without involving the pa kage "anager., this "ethod is strongly discouraged sin e security patches and updates are not auto"ati ally applied to such apps. 0n addition, you ould inadvertently install "alware on your syste". &herefore, if you wish to side-load apps, at the very least, please "a,e doubly sure that the download site is trustworthy. Again, if a dialog box pops up asking you to approve additional reEuired changes, sele t the <7ar,< button to pro eed. /ext, in the Bui k 2ilter box, search for, and sele t <libtool-bin< for installation. 3eco++en$e$3 0f you would li,e to use the fonts that are "ost o""only used in 7' 1ord, install 7'-style fonts -such as &i"es /ew Fo"an, et .. by sear hing for and sele ting the 7' font package <ttf-mscorefonts-installer<. /(1, cli k on the <Apply< button on the top and onfir" by cli ,ing <apply" in the dialog box when asked. 0f you have opted to install the <ttf-mscorefonts-installer< package, an 6nd User License Agree"ent -6ULA. box "ay pop up that asks you to agree to the li ense. @ive your assent and ontinue. 1ait for the files to be downloaded and installed -approx. (n the 5roHe t (ptions screen, the destination is3 /home/<your-username>/ece2620/labs/lab1 2or other assign"ents, hange the destination dire tory suitably. 2or exa"ple, the destination for lab 2 is /home/<your-username>/ece2620/labs/lab2 and for hwG, select /home/<your-username>/ece2620/hw/hw1. 0f a dire tory does not exist, you will have to create it either using the <Open< button, and the <Create Folder< button in the next window, or by using the file browser fro" the left-side verti al "enu bar. Do not use spaces in na"ing directories or files. AnHuta does not li,e spa es in file na"es or dire tory na"es= Leave the other 5roHe t (ptions unchanged, then sele t <Continue<. #he k the 'u""ary page+ if all looks as it should then cli k <Apply<. IMPORTANT NOTE: You must use a different directory for each project otherwise be prepared to waste se#eral hours of your life in cleaning up the mixed$up files& 3- /ext, fro" AnHuta>s *uild "enu, sele t 'ele t <Configuration → Default<. Again, fro" the *uild "enu3 <Configure Project<. 7a,e sure that the <Regenerate Project< box is che ,ed, then cli k <Execute<. At this point, AnHuta will set up all the onfiguration files needed for your proHe t. 0f this step is su essful, you should see a main.cc file in the /home/<usrname>/labs/lab1/src dire tory. 9ou can che k by cli ,ing on the <Files" button at the botto" of the top-left pane.
