The conference fosters an interdisciplinary forum for connecting academics, students and practitioners through a dialectic learning and mentoring environment. The conference will consist of student research presentations, workshops, guest speakers and practitioner sessions. Please join us in sharing how you engage in peace! Fees: Students $0 Full Conference $60 Friday Evening Only $30 Registration Deadline: Friday, March 16. 2012 Call for Student proposals: Undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to submit paPer, poster and Photo essay Presentations relating to the conference theme, “Engaging Peace.” SPecial attention will be given to those proPosals relating to the following topics, however, all Proposals will be accePted for review. Given the interdisciPlinary nature of this event, individuals studying the intersection of Peace studies and conflict resolution with other disciplines are esPecially encouraged to aPPly. Proposals may include thesis or dissertation length Projects, but may also reflect or rePort on semester PaPers, internships and volunteer exPeriences. All Persons submitting abstracts are expected to attend. 3 SPecial Interest Topics: International politics, law and governance Public health & the environment Peace education Culture and art Healing, reconciliation and conflict transformation Types of Presentations PaPer Presentations should be aPProximately 10-15 minutes in length. Presentation: Several minutes for questions will follow each presentation. Students are welcome to have a brief, one Page executive hand- out for disPersal. Students' work will be grouPed into Panels with similar projects. Poster: Posters should be the following dimensions: 24" x 36" (vertically or horizontally formatted). Discretion should be used in regards to text length. Students are welcome to have a brief, one page hand-out for disPersal. Posters will be disPlayed during the conference with an opPortunity for students to stand with their disPlay and exPlain key Points about their work. Posters should be fully completed before the conference. The Conference Committee will assist Presenters with mounting their Posters when they arrive. Poster disPlay location to be announced. Photo Essay Photo essays are an important narrative tool. Photo essays should Present a series of upwards of 6 cohesive images relating to the theme of "Engaging Peace." PhotograPhs should be mounted on a poster (24" x 36", vertically or horizontally formatted) and include a title and caPtions. CaPtions, whose length should not exceed 30 words, should be provided under each Photo. PhotograPhs should be the student's own original work. 4 Abstract Submission Instructions To be considered, submissions should include a 300 word abstract or description of the project, university and degree program and contact information. Students are reminded that abstracts should include a description of their research topic, central questions, methodology, framework, and significance. Photo Essay submissions should describe the context and background of the images and relevant issues or experiences caPtured. The following is a brief and general overview of the schedule. Friday, March 23, 2012 Registration will open for the conference beginning at 5:00 PM in the University Commons. Opening remarks will be made, followed by dinner and Presentations by our keynote speakers. Conference ParticiPants will then be invited to attend a social hour at a local venue. Saturday, March 24, 2012 Registration and breakfast will oPen for participants beginning at 7:30 AM. Participants will have the oPtion of choosing from a series of simultaneously occurring Panels, sPeakers and workshops during each one and a half hour session. Throughout the day, poster and Photo essay submissions will be oPen for viewing. The conference will run until aPProximately 5:30 PM.
