Please reserve with the Concierge (*07), who will give you a reservation number, which you need for entry. Limited seating in the PAC. Must have a reservation number. 2. The PAC doors open 10 - 15 minutes before show time. Check-in at the back PAC door; wear a mask up to the bridge of your nose, and sanitize your hands before entering. 3. PAC chairs are spaced six feet apart, and seating is limited. 4. The PAC is thoroughly sanitized before each performance. If there is any kind of treat or beverage, please throw out your trash and leave nothing behind. 5. Thank you for keeping each other safe! Questions? This group is proof that people of opposing thoughts can and carry on civil discourse and find humor and friendship. Petra and Andy, making music together since the Performing Arts High School, perform their swinging sounds near and far (Europe, Japan). Everyone sings “Happy Birthday, Garlands friends” to those celebrating November birthdays, and all members are invited to attend and enjoy a cupcake (individually packaged) by Pastry Chef Julie. RSVP *07 Betsey Means as Mary Kingsley Monday Live in the Performing Arts Center Nov 9 WomanLore’s one-woman performances – adapted directly 3:00 pm- from journals, autobiographies, and personal writings – offer 4:00 pm a complete theatrical experience, authentically costumed and designed, accurately evoking the era portrayed. While we’re staying put, let’s join intrepid Victorian explorer, Mary Kingsley (1862-1900), for her real-life adventures. An ichthyologist, Mary traveled to West Africa, lived among cannibals, and wrote two best-selling books, one of which is still No. 7 out of the 100 best travel books of all time through the National Geographic Society. We’re so happy to welcome Betsey Means (Emily Dickenson, Agatha Christie, Alicia Appleman-Jurman) back to The Garlands! RSVP *07 Veterans Day Lunch and Movie by Mon. The movie “To Hell and Back” stars WWII hero Audie Murphy, as himself, the most decorated soldier of that war. Seating is limited: veterans receive priority reservations. If you are a veteran and do not wish to attend, we can arrange for a complimentary to-go lunch to be delivered to your home; but you MUST reserve (*07) by Mon, 11/9, and say “To-Go Lunch for a Veteran.” Lunches will be delivered after 12:30. In October Jenny 3:00 pm- brought us Diana Nyad’s book as well as a terrific selection of 4:00 pm books to consider reading. This month Jenny becomes Julie Andrews to present Home – A Memoir of My Early Years. Who was Julie Andrews before Mary Poppins and Maria Von Trapp? It’s all here: the story and the songs as well as suggestions for your next reading adventure, delivered by a true book lover. Everyone is 1:00 pm- socially distanced but together listening to early holiday music. 2:00 pm SAVE THE DATE Sunday Winter Wonderland - Garlands Campus Dec 13 We will remember 2020 for so many reasons, including that this was the year we had 4:30 pm- to modify our traditional holiday celebration: Winter Wonderland. This year, Winter 7:00 pm Wonderland will be exclusively for Garlands members. In order to keep you safe, family members and team members and their families will sit this one out. This year, we’re looking at a more serene, communal, intimate experience together. This is a time not only to reach out to your friends but also, to a neighbor who could use some cheer. Offer to meet up at the Victorian Carolers, listen to the Strings together, or to join others and sample the goodies that will be found throughout. Members and team members must abstain from baking cookies, but Pastry Chef Julie will offer (individually-wrapped) treats. Our Gingerbread Village will still be magnificent. Live music will float in the air everywhere. The donation box for Toys for Tots will still stand in the 1000 Lobby, reminding us of the true meaning of the season. Please consider donating a new, unwrapped toy to this local charity. June Calling All Garlands Artists - Art Gallery by the Performing - July Arts Center -call Lynn *13 2021 Next summer – June and July – we’re showcasing an “Our Garlands” exhibit in the Art Gallery featuring member and team member art pieces of our beautiful campus, indoors and out. You can create and share paintings, drawings, photographs, and mixed media. Come to the Wednesday Kaleidoscope Art Classes to build up your confidence. Take photos now to paint or draw over the winter.
