Perhaps it is his role as one of the early Presidents of U3A that John Summers should be most recognised and appreciated in the Dubbo region. He negotiated, in his role as president from 2001/04, with Dubbo City Council, for a permanent home for the University of the Third Age. He worked closely with Ron Dean, the Secretary, and was succeeded by Colin Jones, who finalised the agreement for use of the Cultural Centre. Dubbo The Literature class involves discussion of poems and novels, opening minds to concepts that may be outside normal daily experience for Art and Craft those growing up in a rural town or on a property. For example, John Summers helped students consider the role of literature in influencing the concepts of modernism and post modernism.
