The panellist on News Quiz and presenter of Great British Menu will get the pre-recorded party underway from Pacific Quay's Studio A, bringing a lively mix of both traditional and popular music, including Scottish music legends Travis, and chat in Susan Calman’s (Not Quite) End of Year Show on the BBC Scotland channel on Hogmanay. The party will get in to full swing from 11.30pm on both the BBC Scotland channel and BBC One Scotland with Hogmanay 2019, when Susan will invite Des Clarke and Amy Irons to join the party and help her bring in the New Year from around Scotland. “Hogmanay is such an important occasion across the country and I’m delighted to be on hand to help usher in the New Year. It’s going to be a fun night packed with great comedy, entertainment and music. I always like to get a party started and hope everyone will join me to welcome in 2020 in spectacular fashion," said Susan. This year's extended programme - broadcast on both the BBC Scotland channel and BBC One Scotland - will bring the best of traditional and popular music for armchair audiences and help bring in the New Year in style. "We've changed things a little this year so that we can bring all the key live moments from around Scotland, as we always do, as well as bringing great music for the hundreds of thousands who join us in their living rooms - and we also have a brand new presenting team of household names. It’s great to have Susan, Des and Amy fronting our shows," said BBC Scotland Head of Commissioning, Steve Carson. DH SATURDAY 16 NOVEMBER TELEVISION & RADIO HIGHLIGHTS / BBC WEEK 44 _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Championship Boxing TV HIGHLIGHT Saturday, 16 November BBC Scotland, 10-11.30 pm It has been billed as the biggest all-Scottish fight in a decade and BBC Scotland will be there to cover all the action live. Commonwealth bantamweight champion Lee McGregor and British belt holder Kash Farooq are putting their titles on the line at Glasgow's Emirates Arena in this eagerly-awaited contest. The two fighters have stayed friends during their journeys up the boxing ranks, but when the bell rings the camaraderie will be set aside as they go for glory in this prestigious twin title bout. The pre-fight talk between Glasgow-based Farooq and Edinburgh’s Lee McGregor has been friendly but they’re each confident in their abilities to get the job done. Meeting up at BBC Scotland to talk about the event, the fighters were also united in their appreciation of the new digital channel for giving the sport a live platform. Watching live televised bouts as youngsters inspired them to take up the sport and they expressed their appreciation to the channel for screening fights which could motivate other youngsters to follow them into the ring. JG Belladrum 2019 (Highlights) Saturday 16 November BBC ALBA, 9-10pm Fiona MacKenzie and Niall Iain Macdonald look back at Belladrum 2019 with music from the main stage performances by Elephant Sessions and Skerryvore and an acoustic set from Stephanie Cheape. LS SUNDAY 17 NOVEMBER TELEVISION & RADIO HIGHLIGHTS / BBC WEEK 44 _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ BBC Children In Need 2019 Highlights NEW Sunday 17 November BBC One Scotland, 4.05-4.50pm (please note time change) Presenter Jackie Bird looks at some of the highlights from this year’s Children In Need, including the best entertainment from Friday’s extravaganza. There’s another chance to see the young people from the BBC Scotland Children in Need choir perform Emeli Sandé’s hit Shine alongside the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, plus there’s a special performance from Susan Boyle and a message from Jack, Victor and the Still Game cast. Presenter Jackie will also introduce a series of moving films featuring some of the Scottish charities and children who have benefitted from the fund. This year some of the organisations to come under the spotlight include Blue Sky Autism, based in Stirlingshire, immersive theatre project Regen: FX Youth Trust which runs in Lanarkshire, and Versus Arthritis in Ayrshire, which helps young people suffering from the debilitating condition. LD Paramedics on Scene, Ep 8/10 Sunday 17 November BBC Scotland, 9-10pm In this episode, the cameras follow ambulance crews in Aberdeenshire, Edinburgh and Paisley, and the Special Operations Response Teams as they deal with the most serious calls. In Aberdeen, ambulance crew Sarah and Stewart are called to a lady who has fallen at home and needs to be checked over. Up the road near Peterhead, an elderly patient who has difficulties moving needs to be transferred to hospital. Ambulance crew Ricky and Luan use their skills to help him safely into the ambulance. Outside Glasgow, Special Operations paramedic Brian gets a call to a woman with breathing problems - which could be a sign of something really serious. Later, he is called to help his colleagues at a bus crash in Glasgow that has left a few passengers injured. In Edinburgh, Moira and Blair are called to a lady who has collapsed on Princes Street and needs to be taken to hospital. In Paisley, Gary and Pete respond to a call about a young boy with a rare heart condition who has had a seizure and needs to be checked in hospital. And back in Aberdeen, paramedic Nick struggles to get an intravenous line into a seriously ill patient. HM The Big Scottish Book Club, Ep 2/4 Sunday 17 November BBC Scotland, 10-11pm This week on The Big Scottish Book Club writer Damian Barr is in Perthshire at the Inchyra Arts Club, with as Damian explains “a barnful of some of the world’s best writers.” The theme for the second chapter of this series is memoir, with a welter of life and emotion up for discussion from family issues to near death experiences. Maggie O’Farrell joins Damian to discuss her latest book, I Am, I Am, I Am, while Janice Galloway chats to her about her memoir All Made Up. Rhik Samadder talks about his acclaimed debut I Never Said I Loved You. There is performance from Andrew McMillan with his poem, Glimpse. HM Autumn Test: Scotland v Wales TV HIGHLIGHT Sunday, 17 November BBC ALBA, 3-5.10pm Live women's rugby as Scotland take on Wales at Scotstoun. Following the historic series win in South Africa where they won both Tests against the Springboks who have already qualified for the 2021 Rugby World Cup, Scotland Women return to Scotstoun on Sunday, November 17 for the first home game of the season, against Wales. LS Alleluia!/Spiritual Music & Verse Sunday 17 November BBC ALBA, 7.30-8pm Iain Mackinnon presents hymns, psalms and a personal faith story. Young South Uist singer Ruairidh Gray performs To God be the Glory while Iain Alasdair MacSween from Harris explains the role of faith in his life. Donna Barden from Lewis suggests some spiritual thoughts on the subject of families while the Glasgow Islay Choir sing Psalm 108. Also, in this episode Mairead MacLennan will narrate some verses from the book Gliocas bho’n Bhìoball by Donald Saunders and Iain reads from the Gospels of the New Testament.
