
A guide to terms: Fascism: What it is and how to Fight It by Leon Trotsky Bourgeoisie - the social class that came to own the means of production and whose social concerns are the value of property and the preservation of capital to ensure the perpetuation of their economic supremacy in society. Bureaucratic - overly concerned with procedure at the expense of efficiency or common sense. Capitalism - an economic and political system in which a country's trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit, rather than by the state (or citizens, public, etc.) Communism - a political theory derived from Karl Marx, advocating a society in which all property is publicly owned and each person works and is paid according to their abilities and needs. Comrade - used to mean 'mate', 'colleague', or 'ally', and derives from the Spanish term “camarada.” Fascism - a form of far-right, authoritarian ultranationalism characterized by dictatorial power, forcible suppression of opposition, as well as strong regimentation of society and of the economy. Lumpenproletariat - the “criminal class”—people who use or have used illegal means to make a living, such as drug dealers, prostitutes, etc. These people have been cast away from society and typically resorted to the unpolitical, unorganized lower order of society. Marxism - the political and economic theories of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, later developed by their followers to form the basis for the theory and practice of communism. Petty Bourgeoisie - one whose interests are a merger between the Bourgeoisie and Proletariat. Proletariat - workers or working-class people. @noxlibrary .
