SCARLET KNIGHTS - 3 FACILITIES FOR A B1G FUTURE RWJBARNABAS HEALTH ATHLETIC PERFORMANCE CENTER The RWJBarnabas Health Athletic Performance Center opened in the Fall of 2019. The 307,000-square-foot, four-story facility and parking deck serves as home to a comprehensive sports medicine program and provides state-of-the-art practice facilities, training areas, weight room, locker room and office space for men’s and women’s basketball, wrestling and gymnastics. The facility also houses a nutrition café, as well as a spirit store open to the public. THE GARY AND BARBARA RODKIN ACADEMIC SUCCESS CENTER The Gary and Barbara Rodkin Academic Success Center will serve to support the academic achievements of over 650 Rutgers student- athletes. With academic support services ranging from individual tutoring to workshops and seminars, the Academic Success Center will nourish the minds of our Scarlet Knights. This state-of-the-art facility will also be the new home for our men’s and women’s soccer and men’s and women’s lacrosse programs. The facility will include dedicated training and equipment spaces for each program, new lounges, meeting spaces, offices, and locker rooms. With construction in progress, the Academic Success Center is slated to open in Winter 2020-21. 4 - RUTGERS ATHLETICS THE MARCO BATTAGLIA PRACTICE COMPLEX The Marco Battaglia Football Practice Complex, opened in August 2017, offers a state-of-the-art training facility for the football program. Featuring two new Kentucky Bluegrass fields equipped with a high tech drainage and irrigation system, the facility also houses a separate FieldTurf playing surface with CoolPlay technology that offers our Scarlet Knights an additional area for practice drills. The complex was fitted with a high-powered Musco LED light system. Two permanent 54-foot film towers were constructed in the complex along with two new scoreboards, a new LED video board and six game clocks. A 5,000 square foot storage unit was installed along with new maintenance equipment and permanent restrooms. Rutgers Nation packed the RAC for a record 10 sellouts for men’s basketball in the 2019-20 season, showing that strength in numbers helps fuel the Scarlet Knights success in competition. From the R-U chant to the Knight Pulse, the crowd keeps the Scarlet Knights ignited for battle from tip-off to the final buzzer. WHY SCARLET? The color scarlet was first proposed in the campus newspaper, The Targum, in May 1869. It was adopted shortly thereafter. This color was chosen because of its striking appearance and a good scarlet ribbon could be easily obtained.
