Iron Cove (close to Victoria Road): The Rozelle Interchange project • utilities and drainage work (trenching, rock hammering and utilities cut overs) team wishes you a safe and happy Easter break. • demolition of pavement between Byrnes Street and Iron Cove Bridge • road resurfacing at the intersection of multiple streets with Victoria Road • adjusting traffic signals ahead of major traffic changes Notification No 96 All of these activities will involve high noise and our mitigation measures will include: • using non-tonal reversing beepers on all machinery • turning off equipment and vehicles when not in use or required • directing noise and light generating equipment away from homes where possible • installing noise blankets around our temporary work areas • applying regular respite where required. 1 Changes to connectivity in Iron Cove In April, the connectivity to Iron Cove will be changed with both permanent and long-term road closures, bus stop relocations and associated cyclist and pedestrian detours. These are required so we can build new westbound Victoria Road traffic lanes. The above changes are in addition to existing road closures and detours currently in place for the Balmain sewer relocation work. Changes include the closure of Moodie Street for up to six months at the northern end and three months at the southern end, and Yarra Avenue and Terry Street for four months. Please follow signage and allow extra time for your journey. We understand that this will be a significant change for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists and a factsheet has been developed which provides further information. The fact sheet has been letterbox dropped and can also be found on the WestConnex website in the Rozelle Interchange document library. The map below illustrates access routes for cyclists and pedestrians once all changes are implemented. 2 Iron Cove New and ongoing activities for the month Day/ night Location What’s involved work Victoria Road inside Preliminary work will progress to build the new westbound Victoria Road traffic lanes, and Day & night construction sites access ramp to the future tunnel entry and exit portals to be situated in the middle of work between Callan and Victoria Road. This work involves rock hammering, piling, compaction work and construction Byrnes streets of temporary and permanent support walls and structures. These activities create high noise as we hammer into rock and need to shake the piling rig free of material. You may also notice some vibrations from the compaction work. High noise work will be carried out between 8am and 6pm Monday to Friday, 8am to 1pm Saturday, with regular respite periods. Other associated preliminary work includes drainage and water adjustment work. This involves noisy work such as cutting through road pavement, trenching and reinstating work areas. Several important temporary and permanent road closures and access changes will be implemented in April. These changes are explained in greater detail on page 2. Victoria Road at We’re building a temporary westbound bus bay and realigning the surrounding shared Day & night Byrnes Street and path on Victoria Road adjacent to Byrnes Street. This work involves removal of existing work the Iron Cove Bridge pavement and barriers on the shared user path at Iron Cove Bridge and the Bay Run. Access will be maintained throughout the work with traffic control in place. We’re also installing new drainage pipes and pits at Byrnes Street. Work involves road sawing and hammering and is expected to generate high noise. Toelle, Callan and Work to install new street lighting and power poles will commence within our sites and local Day & night Springside streets streets between Byrnes and Springside streets to replace the current streetlights along Victoria work Road. Some tree trimming will be required as part of this work. Power outages are associated with this work. Further information about any planned outages will be provided once they are confirmed. The installation of ground monitoring equipment will require us to return to each location Springside Street Day work twice. Initially to investigate the location of utilities in the ground and then to install the monitoring equipment. This work is generally low impact and involves using a drill rig mounted on the back of a truck to bore into the ground, install the equipment and reinstate the work area. We’ll be starting work to install Intelligent Transport Systems on Victoria Road in Victoria Road Day & night Drummoyne, east of the Iron Cove Bridge. ITS include variable message signs (VMS), traffic (Drummoyne) work signals systems, Closed Circuit Televisions (CCTV) and speed cameras. These systems will be installed to monitor and improve traffic flows, provide updated traffic information to motorists and enhance motorist safety. The first piece of work involves investigation work to identify the location of underground services. We'll be required to return to these locations in the coming months to install the physical infrastructure. Ongoing major activities Balmain sewer Excavation and long-term street closures for the Balmain sewer relocation continue in April. Work involves road Day & night between the Iron sawing and hammering and is expected to generate high noise. work Cove Bridge and Terry Street 3 April night work dates in Iron Cove To reiterate, upcoming traffic, pedestrian and cyclist changes Upcoming long-term and permanent road closures • Toelle Street will be closed at Victoria Road for up to 12 months • Clubb Street will be permanently closed for construction at Victoria Road, creating a cul-de-sac • Terry Street outbound traffic lanes will be closed between Victoria Road and Nagurra Place for four months. Ongoing long-term road closures • Callan Street will remain closed between McCleer Street and Victoria Road for up to four weeks • Moodie Street and the eastern footpath to McCleer Street will remain closed at Victoria Road for six months • Yara Avenue and the westbound footpath will remain closed up to Warayama Place for four months. Upcoming long-term pedestrian and cyclist changes • The westbound footpath on Victoria Road, between Springside and Toelle streets, will be closed from 7 April for 18 months. The remaining footpath between Toelle and Byrnes streets will be closed from 21 April for 18 months • The Terry Street signalised pedestrian crossing will be closed from 7 April for up to three years.
