That is probably also the goal of the actual youth team, because at this year’s Youth European Championship the team showed huge potential in finishing fourth. The excellence of the girls born in 1994/95 was also confirmed at a four-nations tournament in preparation of the World Championship, as the German team finished second behind Brazil and ahead of Italy and Russia. Italy were beaten twice as the side gained revenge for the two defeats at the European Championship. The Italians are again opponents at the World Championship as well as two teams from Asia. National coach Jens Tietböhl initially didn’t like this circumstance, “because we don’t have experience with Asian teams.” However the well-balanced team showed in the past, that it grows with challenges. Coach profile Jens Tietböhl, current coach of the Germany girls’ youth team, has been involved with the German federation for more than a decade. The 49-year old from Berlin celebrated his biggest success of his previous coaching career with the junior women’s team in 2007 where he helped them win the European Championship.
