On this feast of Corpus Christi, we hear the account of the Last Supper. !is was Passover, an ancient sign of the covenant of Moses. !e Hebrew people celebrated God’s providential care for His people. To the listening disciples, Jesus makes a very bold claim, “!is is my blood of the covenant.” At the time of the #rst Passover – the redemption of the Hebrew people from slavery to the Egyptians – the blood of the sacri#cial lamb was spread on the lintels of the doorpost. !e next day, some of the disciples would witness the blood of the new covenant spread across the wood of the cross. Christ’s Body and Blood are more than a sign. !ey are a sacrament. In the sacrament, the sign makes real what it signi#es. More than ritual, a sacrament enacts truth of the covenantal love of God and His promise of #delity. It’s a promise God keeps. !e same bread and wine of that #rst Holy !ursday liturgy becomes, throughout the centuries and until the end of time, the very Body and Blood of Christ. On this feast, we celebrate the unfailing covenantal love of our God. As you partake in the Eucharist today, and next Sunday, and the Sunday a$er that, remember that you receive neither a meaningless sign nor an empty o%er. You receive God Himself, as He ful#lls His promise to remain with us always. The Most Sacred Heart Of Jesus Friday, June 8, 2018 Living Faith Booklets Available Whether statues or stained glass, the image Care Ministers: !e Living Faith booklets for July/August/ of the Sacred Heart of Jesus can be found in September 2018 are available for the people you visit. !ey can churches all over the world. Jesus looks down, be picked up in either the Ministers’ Sacristy at St. Mary or in one hand extended out and another pointing the Children’s Room/Library at St. Francis Xavier. !ank you to a heart wreathed in thorns and glowing for the ministry you do! with light. In the Sacred Heart, we see both the sorrow and the joy of the life of Christ, who became one of us out of love. “Jesus knew and loved us each and all during his life, his agony, and his Passion and gave himself up for each one of us. He has loved us all with a human heart” (CCC 478). In the Incarnation, God becomes man. Jesus experienced the Scripture Readings for This Week fullness of humanity, including its su%erings.
