GOETHE / 03 RESIDENZSCHLOss 1 BURGPLATZ 4 Johann Wolfgang Goethe wurde PERSON 1749 in Frankfurt geboren. Schon als Junge liebte er ­iteratur und Theater, studierte Jura in ­eipzig und Strassburg. Durch seinen Briefroman „Die Leiden des jungen Werther“ wurde er 1774 plötz- lich berühmt. Nach einem ersten Besuch in Weimar siedelte er 1775 hierher über und wird ­eamter der Stadt. Ihn verband eine enge Freundschaft mit dem 18-­ährigen Herzog Carl August und er über- nahm verschiedene Ämter im Herzogtum, faktisch diente er ihm als Ministerpräsident. 1749 1775 GOETHE / 04 CASTLE OF RESIDENCE BURGPLATZ 4 1 PERSON Johann Wolfgang Goethe was born in Frankfurt in 1749. As a boy he already loved literature and the theatre. He studied law in Leipzig and Strasbourg. He quickly made his name in 1774 through his epistolary novel “The Sorrows of Young Werther”.
