LESSON #4: 4TH AND 5TH GRADE E-LEARNING LESSON Mythical Creatures Materials: Paper, Coloring supplies (any) Directions: There have been many mythical creatures in many different cultures. These creatures are usually the combination of two animals and might have special abilities. I want you to invent your own creature (combine 2-3 animals). Make a drawing, color it, and then write a little something that describes it! Check out the chart below of some Mythical Creatures from history. (Many of them are seen in Harry Potter movies) Also check out this link of an artist who draws Fun Animal Combinations: Some Famous Mythical Creatures Hippocampus- Creature of Greek mythology that is half water serpent and half horse. Can create tidal waves and breathe water like a dragon breathes fire. Hippogriff – symbol of love, half eagle and half horse. Griffin- Guardians of secretly buried wealth, the Griffin has the body of a lion and the head and wings of an eagle. It is also considered to be a symbol of strength and valor. Pegasus- Pegasus symbolizes beauty and majesty, a guide for humans towards the realm of the spirits. After its death, it was transformed into a constellation of stars. Phoenix- Phoenix is a bird with a tail of colorful features that turn into fire. It is believed that when a Phoenix dies in its own fire, it will soon rise again from the ashes. Dragon A gigantic and powerful serpent with magical or spiritual characteristics. They are iconic for their powerful fire-breathing abilities. They have many different meanings. Sometimes meaning luck and other times being a symbol of war. Jackalope- A North American hybrid animal that is a jackrabbit with deer antlers. Although it is small, it is defensive and aggressive.
