The following exceptions will apply: 1. ENTRIES Each Zone may enter two (2) competitors in each event for the 100m, 200m, 400m, Hurdles and Relay events. Zone winners will compete in Division 1 and Zone placegetters will compete in Division 2. 2. EXTRA ATTEMPTS IN FIELD EVENTS Where applicable, the leading six (6) competitors may have one (1) extra attempt, if time permits. 3. POINT SCORE 1st = 25; 2nd = 20; 3rd = 18; 4th = 16; 5th = 14; 6th = 12; 7th = 10; 8th = 9; 9th = 8; 10th = 7; 11th = 6; 12th = 5; 13th = 4; 14th = 3; 15th = 2; 16th = 1. PLEASE NOTE: for the 100 m, 200 m and 400 m, Hurdles and Relay events, places 1st to 16th will be determined on times across Divisions 1 and 2. Relays/Pentathlon: Double points 4. SWSSA SELECTION In all events where three competitors may be selected, the Selection Committee has the power to nominate the third competitor. This permits the inclusion in the team of outstanding athletes, who, through injury, are unable to compete at the SWSSA Carnival. (As per By-law, 7 section C, of the S.W.S.S.S.A. By-Laws). Zone Conveners must nominate such athletes on the correct form, listing the reason for not competing and relevant information. All such nominations must be received by the SW Convener no later than 11 JULY, 2016. By 9.00am 5. IMPORTANT DETAILS a) First call for all events will be given 20 minutes before the scheduled time. b) All events should start on time. No event should start early. c) Field events will not be held waiting for competitors to compete in track events. This also applies to high jumps – the bar will not be put down. d) The order of competing in field events may be varied to avoid clashes in events, but when the scheduled time has elapsed, the event is concluded. e) Relays: Athletes may compete in any one relay at their own or an older age group. f) Please be conscious of SAFETY. Competitors ONLY…. allowed in the competition area. 6. 4 x 400m RELAY Rules governing this event are as follows: i) Team Composition 1 x Boys’ team 1 x Girls’ team These teams will be selected at the discretion of the Athletics Convener and the selection panel. As no event exists in age sections other than 17+ years, a competitor of any age may be selected in this team. Points will be accredited to Zone score only. ii) Conduct of Race: This event will be conducted under I.A.A.F. Rules, with the first 600 metres run in lanes. Baton change procedure will be as follows: Change 1: In lanes Change 2 and 3: At the finish line in position determined by the appropriate official. 6.1.11 SPIKES (CHS Handbook) All athletes in Hurdles and High Jump events will be required to wear spikes if the track is wet. This is for the safety of all athletes. When worn the maximum length for all track events plus Long Jump and Triple Jump is 7mm. For High Jump and Javelin it is 9mm. All athletes must wear shoes on each foot at all times when competing. 7. INVITATION ATHLETES Zones may nominate (on the correct form provided) a THIRD competitor or team if just cause is given. All such nominations must contain the following information:- Full details of the athlete/team; Reasons why consideration should be given; and Performance(s). All such nominations must be received by the SWSSA Athletics Convener IN WRITING, no later than 9.00am Wednesday 22 July, 2021 Successful nominations will not be awarded points, but will be considered for SWSSA selection and will be awarded certificates if finishing in the top three performances.
