Tab C: Experience and Expertise RFP #07-21-25: Staff Development & Leadership Training Services Summary of Delaware Academy for School Leadership (DASL) Professional Programs DASL has provided professional learning opportunities and school-based leadership training for over 20 years in Delaware and nationally. DASL’s signature leadership programs (Appendix A), along with our many customized programs, focus on the individual needs of the schools and districts we serve. DASL’s offerings continue to evolve as new research comes to the forefront. DASL has earned credibility by working collaboratively with schools, districts and Departments of Education for the past twenty years. The staff has also earned a national and international reputation, providing consultative and advisory services to Department of Education staff and professional administrators’ organizations in Hawaii, Kentucky, South Carolina, Ohio, New York, Iowa, Kansas, Wyoming, North Carolina, New Mexico, Georgia, Maryland, California and Alabama and training in the countries of Trinidad and Tobago and Greece. DASL also partnered with the professional learning community convened by Albany State University for the purpose of collaborating with faculty of 14 universities in redesigning leadership preparation programs. DASL leadership specialists trained 40 university faculty who work with principal interns using DASL’s blended coaching model. This work supported the Wallace Foundation University Principal Preparation Program Initiative (UPPI). In addition, DASL has developed and maintained national partnerships with a variety of organizations to augment services it provides to Delaware educators and national and international clients (see Appendix B: DASL’s National Partnerships). In order to demonstrate DASL’s broad-range expertise, ability to customize professional learning opportunities and nimble operations, below are our most recent accomplishments during the past twelve months. Presentations ● Presented at 15 national and regional conferences focusing on the following topics: learning theory and practice, professional standards for educational leaders, standards aligned systems for developing principal pipelines, coaching-based supervision for principal supervisors, blended coaching for school leaders, mediating conflict among school leaders, pivotal practices of effective principals, and understanding new generations of educators ● Presented to the National Governors Association Education Policy Advisors Fall Conference on the topic of funding principal pipelines 1 Tab C: Experience and Expertise RFP #07-21-25: Staff Development & Leadership Training Services ● Presented at the University Council for Education Leadership on the topic aligning professional education leadership standards to preparation programs Professional Learning for School Leaders ● Provided training and credentialing to all DE administrators use DE’s Performance Appraisal System with school administrators on behalf of DEDOE ● Led 15 special education site visits in Delaware to provide feedback to administrators and leadership teams on ideas to improve their services to special education students ● Facilitated a strategic planning process for a district’s Curriculum and Instruction office ● Coached 30+ school leaders using a Blended Coaching model on a weekly basis on topics of performance appraisal, supervising staff, providing actionable feedback, etc. ● Facilitated a 6-session leadership series with district managers focusing on topics such as the balance between coaching and supervision, mediating conflict, effective communication, leading purposeful meetings, and teambuilding ● Recruited Cohort VI of DASL’s Principal Preparation Program, an 18-month alternative route to school leader certification including face-to-face and virtual courses, internships with ongoing mentoring, and demonstration of core competencies ● Led aspiring school leaders through workshops focused on communication, collaboration, and problem-solving ● Trained 40 faculty from 14 universities in Georgia on a model of Blended Coaching when working with aspiring leaders in the principal preparation program. ● Facilitated Blended Coaching training and a Boot Camp for novice school leaders in partnership with the Rhode Island Association of School Principals ● Facilitated the use of instructional rounds in partnership with Yonkers Public School, NY ● Led Delaware’s second annual Women’s Leadership Conference Professional Learning/Training for Teachers ● Facilitated research-based professional learning to educators in Athens, Greece on topics related to high-quality classroom instruction and classroom management. ● Led a team of 75 teachers and administrators in the Design Thinking Process ● Provided training and coaching to educators seeking certification for Jobs for DE Graduates ● Facilitated multiple professional learning sessions with 50 teachers in Seaford School District, DE on the topic of Data-Based Instruction: text-based questioning, formative 2 Tab C: Experience and Expertise RFP #07-21-25: Staff Development & Leadership Training Services assessments and classroom management. ● Trained and facilitated professional learning sessions on the topic of Professional Learning Communities (PLC) for a group of 40 teachers in DE. Building Partnerships ● Developed partnerships with 25 school districts to support school leaders ● Brought together 28 school teams for an onsite and virtual Professional Learning Network focused on Principals’ Role in Leading Special Education. Teams discussed best practice in special education, reflecting on content from a content area expert and collaborating with the Delaware Department of Education and the Center for Disability Studies at the University of Delaware ● Served on Advisory Board for Learning Forward’s Professional Standards redesign process ● Facilitated a site visit on behalf of the Wallace Foundation on the topic of Principal Pipelines and Principal Preparation in collaboration with Denver Public Schools, University of Denver and Charlotte Mecklenburg Public Schools. ● Facilitated project teams focused on principal pipelines and principal supervisors on behalf of the Wallace Foundation for 14 urban school districts ● Facilitated a self-study process for the design of a principal pipeline with three SC urban school districts ● Organized and hosted DE’s Annual Policy and Practice Institute where approximately 450 educators and policy leaders convene for learning and development ● Led a working group to develop leadership standard for DE’s early care directors in collaboration with the DEDOE and UDSTARS Program faculty ● Recipient of grant from USDOE in collaboration with UD’s Center for Disabilities Studies and the DEDOE to provide a certification program for Directors of Special Education. ● Facilitated two workshops for CCSSO School Leadership Fall Collaborative on the topic of Professional Standards for Educational Leaders Webinars/Podcasts/Twitter Chats ● Led a webinar for NAESP on the topic of Five Key Practices of Effective Principals ● Led a webinar for AASA on the topic of The Role of Principal Supervisors and Principal Evaluation ● Facilitated a series of twitter chats on behalf of NASSP on the topic of principal pipelines 3 Tab C: Experience and Expertise RFP #07-21-25: Staff Development & Leadership Training Services and research informed characteristics of effective principals ● Facilitated a series of twitter chats on behalf of AASA on topics related to principal supervision ● Created a podcast for the National Governors’ Association on the topic on Investing in Principal Pipelines ● Participated in a podcast with Inclusive Education on the topic of Developing Special Education School and District Leaders DASL’s experience with similar type and size of clients. The large majority of DASL’s customer base is K-12 schools (95%). DASL also supports the Pre-K and collegiate levels (5%). DASL’s work with higher education faculty is often related to school leader preparation programs (Albany State University in Atlanta, GA and North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC). DASL has provided similar professional development, and leadership training services requested by CUSD to several similarly sized or larger clients. For example: 1) Long Beach Unified School District, CA (81,000 students). Recently, DASL provided a professional development program for school teams on the use of the design thinking process for school improvement. This project involved preparing and customizing approximately 30 hours of learning experiences for 75 educators (administrators and teachers) and the leadership of a team of a dozen facilitators who were supporting the vision for the training. 2) Delaware Department of Education (138,000 students). Some of the most recent services provided include: ● Administrator Evaluation System Training – DASL trained and credentialed every administrator in the State. ● Online professional learning Series -DASL created a 6-module online professional learning series aligned to the administrator evaluation system. ● Administrator Induction Program – DASL provided 1:1 onsite coaching to second year assistant principals across the State. ● Developed and led 10 school teams through a year-long series utilizing the Design Thinking protocol. 3) Red Clay Consolidated School District (17,000 students). ● DASL facilitated professional learning for leadership teams to guide work in distributed leadership. 4 Tab C: Experience and Expertise RFP #07-21-25: Staff
